Project Development Manager, Hawaiʻi
AES Clean Energy is currently seeking a Project Development Manager to manage project development efforts as a member of its Hawaiʻi Project Development team. The successful candidate will lead and manage project development efforts on its solar, solar plus storage and standalone storage projects in Hawaiʻi after origination and through to construction commencement. This is a fast-paced role working with internal and external key collaborators and will provide immediate exposure to all aspects of renewable project development.
AES CE has a strong presence in Hawaii with multiple projects under construction or in operation and a large pipeline of renewable projects in development. AES CE has projects in development, construction, or operations on Oʻahu, Maui, Hawaiʻi Island, and Kauaʻi.
This position will be remote in Hawaiʻi and reports to the Director, Project Development - Hawaiʻi. The role requires attention to detail, the ability to work on multiple tasks and projects and requires travel as needed. The successful candidate will work on a cross functional team with land acquisition, commercial, project development, real estate, permitting, legal, finance, engineering, procurement, construction, and outside consultants, landowners, customers, project partners and utility companies. The role requires project development and project management experience and deep renewable energy industry experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of development for one or more AES CE Hawaiʻi projects from origination through to construction commencement.
- Ensure projects are properly de-risked and prepared for successful execution.
- Identify and clearly articulate project risks, opportunities, and recommendations.
- Create and manage project development schedules and budgets.
- Report regular updates to schedules and budgets to the Director.
- Work with internal and external teams to ensure projects are designed to be as efficient and competitive as possible.
- Use AES CE financial and project management system(s) ensuring key project information is up-to-date and accurate.
- Process contracts and agreements with external vendors for project-related services.
- Lead project meetings, develop agendas, and action items as needed with internal and external team members.
- Manage contract obligations in key project documents.
- Coordinate site diligence in conjunction with internal teams and consultants including critical issue screening, environmental studies, surveys, diligence reports, etc.
- Coordinate Project discretionary permitting including permit strategy, tracking permit efforts, working with local AHJs, consultants, counsel and other teams.
- Assist the Strategic Development / Origination team as needed and applicable on upfront new pipeline origination efforts.
- Assist Strategic Development and Development team in managing the Interconnection process.
- Participate in project financings answering relevant diligence questions and providing required documents.
- Coordinate additional resources or outside consultants/contractors as well as managing and meeting expenses throughout project development.
Skills and Qualifications:
- At least 5 (five) years of project management and/or development experience in solar energy, storage or related field.
- Knowledge or experience working in Hawaii market.
- Undergraduate degree, preferably in engineering, project/construction management or equivalent.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Extensive knowledge of solar project development, utilities, interconnection, permitting and contracting.
- Extensive knowledge of renewable energy technologies.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are required including public speaking and/or platform skills for executive management presentations.
- Self-starter, very self-reliant and capable of operating with minimum supervision.
- Willingness and ability to travel 10-20% on average but more as required by projects.
- Energy storage knowledge a plus.
- Experience using CRM systems and developing metrics.
- Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $141.000 and $176.800/Annual; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered.
