QUALIFICATIONS: Applicant must be a high school diploma or GED; must have a high degree of mechanical aptitude and experience or formal training in machinist trade. Must pass the EEI MASS test. Applicant must have, and demonstrate, the ability to operate machine shop equipment such as: lathes, shapers, surface grinders, presses, grinders, etc., commonly used in the industry; and the ability to correctly read and record precise measurements with measuring instruments such as: micrometers, calipers, etc. Must have and demonstrate the ability to check and properly align rotating equipment; must be able to read and interpret blueprints, and draw sketches required for the successful completion of work being performed. All other general qualifications pertaining to physical fitness, attendance, punctuality, safety performance, and aptitude tests will be considered in the evaluation of job applicants.

Additional consideration will be given for the following job-related training or experience:

1. Successfully completed courses offered in the machinist trade.

2. Experienced machinist or trade school graduate.

3. Working knowledge of power plant mechanical-type work.

4. Any other qualifications contributing to the applicant's ability to do the job.

PRIMARY DUTIES: Repair, rebuild, layout and make new units and components for all mechanical and electrical equipment, facilities, and devices requiring the use of power tools and hand tools necessary to maintain safe, continuous and efficient operation.

Performs duties such as:

1. Creating non-standard units and parts to work with existing assemblies or sub-assemblies, aligning, disassembling, assembling, adjusting and fitting to close tolerances; repairing, grinding, shaping, seating, spraying, turning, drilling, sawing, threading, and installing assemblies, sub-assemblies and parts requiring the use of stationary, portable and hand tools; working from blueprints, sketches, field measurements and specifications; duplicating units and parts; using precision hand tools such as micrometers, gauges, precision blocks, calipers and other instruments and devices used for precision work.

2. Setting up work and operating all stationary tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, planers, drill presses, saws and other stationary machines used for construction and maintenance; setting up and operating portable machine tools such as boring bars, grinders, milling machines and other portable machines used for construction or maintenance.

3. Applying shop mathematics; using charts, graphs, tables and other reference materials common to shop practice; making dies and fixtures which might be necessary to accomplish a complete job; fitting parts together using materials such as chalk or Prussion blue; being familiar with the working properties of various metals and other materials used in construction and maintenance.

4. Performing general mechanical maintenance, construction and other related work, when not doing machinist's work, as assigned.
