This position is a mid-level position and with minimal supervision helps craft, construct, and ensure reliable performance for AES Clean Energy, Energy Management, SCADA, Telecommunications, and other assorted technology systems that supervise and control Solar, Wind, Battery, and Hybrid Renewable Generation power systems. These assets are crucial for electrical grid operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Candidate must be qualified to work independently to maintain critical virtual environments, resolve server and storage issues, plan and budget for growth and replacement with minimal supervision.
  • This position will help configure, install, operate, troubleshoot and maintain servers, storage arrays, network devices, and software to ensure the reliable operation of the power grid.
  • The candidate will be responsible for supporting assigned sites on a 24x7 basis and will develop support documentation to enable backfill support as needed. Support during on-call rotations will involve resetting remote services & servers, resetting user passwords, troubleshooting ISP outages, and other system troubleshooting. Responding quickly, following established procedures, and documentation is essential to performing this task.
  • Responsible for coordinating with two Controls Engineers and site management on continuing operations. Controls engineers have direct responsibility for the SCADA System and related devices.
  • These systems operate 24x7 and are used by Generation field, engineering, planning, reporting and dispatch staff.
  • Help users apply technology to improve business practices to protect large assets and improve customer service.
  • Interacts with co-workers, vendors, and representatives of other organizations to acquire and disseminate information, advise on projects, resolve conflicts, set priorities, coordinate activities, complete projects within time and budget constraints, and provide assistance.
  • Create diagrams and documentation for as-is and to-be IT configurations.
  • Helps evaluate new products and services from vendors to resolve applicability to hardware, software, networks and other systems.
  • Has knowledge of federal, state and local laws, rules, regulations, ordinances, policies and procedures to ensure compliance and client agencies to ensure systems are aligned with all regulatory parameters. Will actively seek to enforce AES Cybersecurity requirements and maintain NERC CIP compliance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related subject
  • This position should have 5 to 10 years of operational technology or related information technology experience.
  • Experience designing and implementation of virtual environments and network fundamentals.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining VMWare virtual environments.
  • Experience with VEEAM or other backup software
  • Experience with troubleshooting Windows Server and other Windows operating systems
  • Experience with budgeting and forecasting operational technology spending
  • Good technical understanding of hardware, software and overall technology.
  • Good written and verbal communications skills.
  • Up to 25+% travel may be required,
  • On call 24x7 to support critical generation facilities.
  • Ability to qualify for a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Ability to wear PPE (steel toed boots, hard hat, fire resistant clothing) when required

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $106,000 and $131,750/Annual; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
