Job Summary:
The successful candidate will be responsible for responsible for: self-performing and managing analysis of transmission systems of the bulk electric grid using power flow models (in commercially available software tools).
In doing so, the Analyst will apply the analysis results to determine the site location, generating capacity, and equipment configuration for new power generation facilities.
The Analyst will also prepare and manage grid interconnection applications for generation and load, track the study processes, engage transmission owners, and conduct analyses of the interconnection study results, to inform project prioritization.

The candidate will be a key member of interdisciplinary business teams and directly affect business outcomes. As such, the candidate will work closely with other disciplines including: management, development, public relations, environmental, real estate, third party consultants and counterparties (suppliers, customers, partners and lender's engineer). Some limited domestic travel will be required to other Tenaska offices, conferences, and counterparty offices.
Essential Job Functions:
- Analyze domestic transmission systems by developing and utilizing power flow modeling tools including steady state, short circuit, and stability analysis software;
- Perform competitor analysis, conduct scenario analysis, and prepare risk assessments of key transmission issues (such as interconnect upgrades and prospective curtailment) related to development projects;
- Advise commercial development teams on the impact of RTO/TO tariff rules, business practices, and modeling methods on project configuration and risk;
- Complete generator interconnection and transmission service requests related to development projects and existing assets;
- Interact with Tenaska's commercial leads to perform due diligence of transmission matters for development projects and potential acquisitions;
- Participating in industry organizations to represent Tenaska's views and opinions as needed to enhance overall asset development, acquisition, and marketing opportunities, and to support existing and future asset operations;
- Act as company subject-matter expert on market-based reliability mechanisms, including security-constrained economic dispatch (SCED) and contingency analysis;
- Evaluate medium and long term market power pricing (e.g. locational marginal pricing, electric transmission tariffs, etc.) for domestic electric transmission systems; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience/Skills:
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering;
- A minimum of five years of experience in transmission engineering or analysis;
- Hands-on experience with large-scale transmission system power flow models;
- Past experience with transmission modeling software such as PSLF, PSSe, TARA, and/or PowerWorld;
- Excellent MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and VBA skills;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Detail-oriented, analytical mindset, and questioning attitude;
- Proactive approach toward seeking out and solving challenging problems;
- Strong work ethic and team attitude; and
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment

Preferred Requirements:
- MS in Electrical Engineering;
- Familiarity with structured, centrally-cleared electricity markets;
- Knowledge of programming language(s) such as Python; and
- Knowledge of or familiarity with various power generation technologies including natural gas fired combined cycle, wind turbines, PV solar, and battery storage
