Job Overview

TE Connectivity's R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Typical fields of expertise include: materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems.

What your background should look like:

The Senior Product Development Engineer will report to the Overhead Solutions Renewables / Connector Team Manager. The role will be responsible for designing and developing new product platforms for TE Energy's solar, including connectors for DC wires and AC like battery storage (BESS).

Responsibilities:

  • Designing TE Energy connector products for Solar applications using metallic and polymeric materials.
  • 3D CAD design using Creo/Pro-E & 2D CAD design
  • Product Data management including compliance (RoHS, Reach...)
  • Lead New Product Developments engineering activities and collaborate with different engineering teams (FEA, tooling, manufacturing...) to meet his objective
  • Preparing design verification test plans, Design & Process FMEAs
  • 3D printing equipment usage
  • Make functional prototypes and participate to testing activities in our laboratory
  • Competitor products tear down / Benchmark
  • Recording results of design reviews, design decision meetings, and writing technical summaries
  • Designing of jigs & fixtures for product testing where required.
  • Supporting product certification with third parties (UL, TÜV, Dekra...) for all new products and platforms as required by our customers.
  • Being a strong technical partner and providing support to Product management teams. Attending/supporting customer meetings, technology days and site visits as required.

Profile:

  • A minimum of 10 years of engineering related experience ideally from the Energy market, with specific experience in the Solar market
  • Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Degree
  • Demonstrated track record of designing power connectors for solar, renewables applications or electricity distribution network
  • Intimate knowledge of insulation piercing connectors, PV connectors, and solar farm architecture
  • Knowledge in connector product design utilizing aluminum and copper conductors
  • Knowledge of plastic material properties and processes (injection molding).
  • Strong customer service mindset and mentality of delivering quality on time and within company cost and profitability objectives.
  • Knowledge of designing grounding connector systems would be an advantage
  • Experience in 3D CAD design tools such as Creo
  • LDFSS or DMAIC 6-sigma black or green belt an advantage
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of ANSI, UL, IEEE, IEC standards
  • Proficient in MS Office suite
  • Willingness to travel
  • Fluent English
  • Fluent communication skills facilitating collaboration with own team, customers, internal business leaders and technology leaders to create value.
  • Individual must have strong planning skills and be able to balance multiple competing priorities
