Job Overview

TE Connectivity's R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Typical fields of expertise include: materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems.

What your background should look like:

Job Responsibilities
• Actively lead and contribute to New Product Development activities with minimal supervision
• Conceptualize designs based on customer requirements using CAD tools like Creo
• Collaborate with a cross functional global team to refine concepts based on input from various stakeholders such as customers, product management, sales, mold engineers, assembly engineers, quality etc.
• Perform and support engineering analysis such as tolerance studies, finite element analysis (FEA) to optimize design
• Explore various prototyping options such as additive manufacturing, soft tools etc. to prove out design features early in the development process
• Lead sessions to document and manage design risks using tools like DFMEA. Create plans to mitigate high risk design elements
• Present the proposed design to both internal and external customers as part of the design review process
• Create 3D annotated models, 2D drawings and engineering bill of materials (EBOM's)
• Provide input to the manufacturing team to ensure manufactured parts meet design intent by reviewing Digital Inspection reports
• Create test plans to test product to expected requirements using tools like Design Verification Plan and Report (DVPR) and Process Validation Plan and Report (PVPR)
• Coordinate testing of parts at the test labs
• Create required documents such as Application Specification, Product Specification, Instruction Sheet etc.

Desired Qualifications Include:

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with concentrations required
• Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible professional level experience in product design, preferred
• Commercial Transportation or Automotive connector design and manufacturing experience, preferred
• Experience in precision part design for molding, preferred
• Experience with stamping and assembly processes
• Experience in material selection; polymers, metals, elastomers
• Strong 3D CAD experience/ability to turn Voice of Customer into concepts. Creo experience preferred
• Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis tools like Ansys, Creo Simulate or equivalent
• Experience in applying Geometric Dimensional and Tolerancing techniques; ASME or ISO GPS
• Strong Voice of Customer (VOC) skills to gather needs and transfer into technical requirements
• Excellent communication & presentation skills (oral & written)
• Detail oriented with the ability to support multiple projects
• Experience in Engineering Change management using Windchill PDMLink
• Knowledge of Transportation Industry processes like PPAP and testing standards (USCAR, SAE, ISO)
• Self-driven to represent TE Connectivity with solutions to complex problems which require a high degree of ingenuity and innovation

COMPENSATION
• Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $107,000 - $137,000 (subject to change dependent on physical location)
• Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. TE Connectivity reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualification of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
• Total Compensation = Base Salary + Incentive(s) + Benefits
