Job Overview

TE Connectivity's R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Typical fields of expertise include: materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems.

Responsiblites

  • Lead the design and development of new automotive products based on customer requirements.
  • Own product design, including 3D modeling, detailed drawings, and basic simulations.
  • Select standard parts and materials to meet internal and customer targets for process and cost.
  • Conduct design reviews to ensure manufacturability and efficiency.
  • Manage the release of parts and drawings for manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with customers and internal teams to gather VOC and provide technical evaluations.
  • Maintain a system-level understanding of customer applications.
  • Work with global teams to meet technical, quality, and cost objectives.
  • Oversee new product introductions (NPI) into manufacturing.
  • Design jigs and fixtures for product testing when required.
  • Drive VAVE, reverse engineering, and competitor benchmarking.
  • Ensure product compliance and manage approvals.
  • Provide technical support to cross-functional teams.
  • Assist with project management in the absence of the team leader.

What your background should look like:

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 8-12 years of experience in product design and development, preferably in sensors or the automotive sector.
  • Proficient in design tools such as Creo, PDM Windchill, GD&T, and basic simulation.
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes and material properties is a plus.
  • Strong conceptual, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and a strong team player.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with DFA, DFMEA, and root cause analysis.
  • Understanding of sensor fundamentals and their automotive applications is preferred.
  • Capable of providing technical support to customers and internal teams.
  • Experience with product testing, validation, and troubleshooting per OEM specifications.
