Job Overview

TE Connectivity, Energy Division is currently seeking for a graduate design engineer to support the efforts for our Industrial Market - Renewable; namely Solar and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). You'll work as part of our ANZ Energy team with a strong link to the regional and local Product Management + Engineering and BDM/Sales organization.

The role of graduate design engineer in this major market (Solar + BESS) provides an exciting opportunity to work within a world leading development team, gain in-depth product/business knowledge and be at the centre of the significant business growth in the coming years. The graduate design engineer is responsible for electrical engineering design (using PVsyst or similar & AUTOCAD), and delivery of solar PV systems proposals for utility-scale applications on time and on budget.

The graduate design engineer will assist the Business Development Manager deliver proposals and the bidding/award process for the product offering and will provide design consultation and support to project management for all solar projects in the region. As such collaborates with technical, tactical and strategic leadership in the projects and well as field installation training and documentation. The graduate design engineer is responsible for managing and continuously improving the project process from initial design concepts up to the point of successful product implementation

Job Responsibilities

  • Support engineering of Solar + BESS projects in ANZ for large scale applications.
  • Complete system design for PV projects including: plant cabling layout, voltage drop calculation, cable size and dimensions, single-line electrical connection, specification of disconnect boxes location, etc.
  • Preparation of design documents such as SLDs for electrical networks and switchgear components, Bill of Materials, Functional Design Specifications, sizing calculations, General Arrangement drawings, cable schedules, earthing drawings. Develop sizing, specifications and selection of BESS and Balance Of Plant (BoP) Equipment.
  • Engagement with customers to collect structural, electrical and related project information for use in the design of the PV system.
  • Provide technical direction or support to installation teams during construction, installation, testing and commission stages as required by customers.
  • Project ownership - support to sales, customer support, detailed bill of material, project presentation and delivery/execution support.
  • Developing supporting documentation required for PV solar systems: instruction manuals, procedures and other, as defined in TE's quality system.
  • Provide sales, project managers and other internal departments with engineering support needed for successful project execution.
  • Champion the solar application in the region and propose optimal design applications.
  • Support evaluation of alternative products and solutions for solar applications.
  • Support customer training and participation in external events and promotional presentations.

Job Requirements

  • Full working rights
  • University degree (Electrical engineering / Renewables Energy Engineering / Photovoltaics and Solar Energy Engineering preferred)
  • At least 1 year of design or electrical engineering experience related to solar/renewable applications
  • Utility size project management in the field
  • Excellent knowledge of PV and BESS systems in large scale applications and construction practices
  • Any additional experience in tendering or estimation is valued
  • Competence in AUTOCAD is mandatory. Fully capable of producing drawings for PV and BESS projects with PVsyst or similar.
  • Well versed in Microsoft office and other MS Project tools
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
