Job Overview

We are creating a world-class Global Trade Services (GTS) organization, and the role of the Industrial Automation & Electrification Business Unit manager is crucial in supporting trade operations and compliance within the Business Unit (BU) in the EMEA region.

The BU manager acts as a trusted advisor and key member of TE's Operational Compliance team for the BU. The purpose of this role is to ensure TE's compliance at the BU level with global import and export regulations, enhancing global trade compliance, reducing risks, increasing responsiveness to issues and opportunities, and facilitating effective international trade operations.

This role reports to the Senior Manager of Global Trade Services and is an integral part of the Global Trade Services (GTS) team. As a member of the GTS team, the Industrial Automation & Electrification Business Unit EMEA manager will join professionals dedicated to ensuring the future growth of the business by offering solutions for compliance with global trade laws and regulations.

The ideal candidate will be able to collaborate and excel in a global environment while maintaining integrity, accountability, teamwork, and a proactive attitude towards change.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage trade operations and provide compliance oversight for the assigned BU to ensure TE's adherence to import/export laws and regulations.
  • Establish and maintain trade operations and compliance activities in line with TE policies, procedures, and controls, in collaboration with key BU stakeholders.
  • Serve as the primary contact for BU leadership and stakeholders on trade-related matters.
  • Work with BU stakeholders and legal counsel to understand business changes and develop trade-related solutions, strategies, and controls to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain BU-level Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and reporting to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with GTS Governance to establish and maintain relationships with trade-related government entities.
  • Partner with GTS Governance to monitor trade compliance regulatory and legislative changes, assess the potential impact on the BU, and communicate necessary actions to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with GTS Governance teams to conduct trade compliance audits and oversee corrective action plans.
  • Partner with GTS Governance to develop and administer effective trade compliance training across the region and organization.
  • Ensure the proper use of the GTS Operations Service Center for product classification (import/export), restricted party screening, duty savings compliance, and ensure proper country of origin determination, valuation, and admissibility.
  • Work with Operational Service Centers to identify, evaluate, and manage opportunities to facilitate cost-effective and compliant trade (e.g., using Free Trade Agreements, Duty Drawback, First Sale for Export, Foreign Trade Zones, etc.).
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal functions, including corporate functions, to raise awareness of global trade compliance issues, proactively identify trade risks, and develop compliance controls.
  • Foster a culture of engagement and performance in alignment with TE's core values.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to support the growth and development of your team.
  • Lead by example and act with empathy.

What your background should look like:

Success in this role requires strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills, strategic planning capabilities for complex situations, excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (internal and external) to drive issues and projects to completion.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications, experience, and skills:

  • Bachelor's degree (international business, supply chain, law, or related field).
  • 6+ years of experience in global trade compliance.
  • Preferred: 3+ years of experience in supporting trade functions in industrial, communications, transportation, or similar sectors.
  • Functional knowledge of import/export regulations and familiarity with customs practices across the region.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with various business groups, including supply chain, legal, procurement, and finance.
  • Ability to foster teamwork and build internal and external relationships.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Customer-focused with a commitment to quality.
  • Preferred: Customs Broker License or other Customs/Trade certification.
  • Travel may be required to fulfill responsibilities.
