TDS Prime Services Role - VP, Business Development

The VP - Business Development is a key contributor to the TDS Prime Services team. Reporting to the Managing Director- Business Development and supporting the North American business, the position will have two key all-encompassing objectives: 1) Assist in meeting team sales objectives to increase the overall P&L of TDS Prime Services and 2) Assist with capital introduction initiatives for existing and prospective clients.

Position Objectives

Assist with Business Development opportunities in both Canada and the United States to increase overall revenue and NIAT:

  • Develop and maintain hedge fund market research and competitive landscape intelligence
  • Pro-active out-reach to potential prospects to arrange meetings
  • Ability to manage a lengthy, complex sales process
  • Prospect follow up - issue resolution (i.e. working with front office risk & credit)
  • Preparation of regular sales reports for distribution to Senior TDS Team and stakeholders
  • Work collaboratively with internal groups for on-boarding new prime Services clients and successfully transitioning to the TDS PB relationship management / securities lending teams
  • Cross - selling other TD Securities' businesses including cash and electronic equity trading, equity derivatives, foreign exchange and fixed income trading
  • Create / fine-tune marketing presentations and collateral materials as required
  • Determine high potential advertising /event/ sponsorship opportunities

Assist with Capital Introduction initiatives for key existing and prospective clients in Canada and the United States

  • Develop, maintain and track relationships with key stakeholders of public and corporate pension plans, endowments, family offices, and other sources of capital. Understanding their external fund mandate requirements and introducing candidate firms as required
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Alternative Fund business development executives and understanding best opportunities for TDS
  • Expand TDS' market intelligence of Canadian allocators
  • Determine 'best in class' opportunities for capital introduction including conferences and internal & external events
  • For hedge funds and alternative mutual funds looking for Canadian retail distribution (note: this may eventually expand to US retail distribution):
    • develop key TD Investment Advisor Contacts
    • work closely with TD Wealth's platform approval

Other Objectives

  • Assist in developing and organizing and client/prospect events
  • Develop relationships with other hedge fund service providers and industry organizations to ensure a fluid referral network
  • Make internal presentations to educate and inform other areas of TDS and TD Bank
  • Other research and revenue optimization project work as required

Position Qualifications

  • Approximately five years prior capital markets experience and a fundamental understanding of the prime services business. Previous institutional sales experience preferred
  • Seek new client opportunities who align with our organization's culture and risk profile while maintaining knowledge and appreciation of department goals and objectives
  • Self-starter - Aptitude for understanding the underlying goals and tasks while pro-actively taking initiative as required
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced, dynamic setting
  • Effective communication and presentation skills
  • Availability for 25% travel
