Position Summary: (Overview of key purpose and accountability of the role)

TD's Architecture team's mission is to maximize business value by balancing strategic architectural plans with speed of delivery, leveraging shared platforms and delivering solutions which are highly available, flexible and secure.

As a member of the team, you will provide architecture direction which guide solution development within TD's application, data, infrastructure and regulatory domains.

You will provide advice to business stakeholders and technical leadership on technology adoption and strategy, and complete Solution Architecture designs which align to TD's target state and architecture boundaries.

You will collaborate with Platform Architecture teams to ensure that services and platforms meet all Journey objectives, timelines and maximize business value.

This is a highly collaborative role working alongside many different teams and stakeholders, spanning business and technology domains.

The successful candidate will be a highly collaborative individual, ensuring where possible we leverage existing TD capabilities to meet new business needs, and influencing product roadmaps and development priorities to maximise business value and deliver solutions which are highly available, flexible, and secure.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Design and architect robust solutions, ensuring architectural integrity and strategic alignment of technical solutions.
  • Assess and develop current architecture and readiness for implementation, introducing new solutions and modernization strategies for technology platforms.
  • Develop detailed-level design requirements for architecture implementations, optimizing platform and integration strategies for cost-effective delivery of scalable and reliable distributed systems
  • Ensure technical solutions meet business functional and non-functional requirements (performance, security, regulatory, etc)
  • Provide expertise and counsel at an executive level to present architecture options and technology choices in support of business initiatives.
  • Maintain a detailed understanding of TD's application and infrastructure landscape, understanding use cases, business alignment and integration specifics.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to deliver end to end solutions for the business.
  • Identify cross enterprise opportunities for alignment, innovation, and/or enhanced efficiencies.
  • Educate and coach product development teams on Architectural boundaries, strategies, target states, roadmaps, and other reusable assets.
  • Oversee and define development specifications, delivery backlog tasks, system performance objectives, delivery automation and system modifications required to meet business or non-functional objectives.
  • Ensure adherence to enterprise and architecture strategy, roadmap, and boundaries.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills - strong collaborator and able to demonstrate a pragmatic approach.
  • Experience in Capital Markets, ideally in Wholesale banking.
  • Excellent documentation skills
  • Experience creating Architectural Blueprint Documents
  • Experience presenting to Approvals Committees
  • Proficiency/certification in GCP/Azure
  • Solid understanding of data analytics principles and methodologies.
  • Experience implementing foundational cloud/Enterprise services (networking, security, account/organizations, logging & monitoring, identity access management, etc)
  • Experience working with private cloud (GCP, AWS, Azure) and private cloud compute, storage, micro-service applications, platform serverless frameworks, API gateway, CI/CD, and cloud-based services.
  • Experience in software development and with SDLC process including DevOps practices and tools.
  • Experience developing DevOps, Site Reliability, and Solutions Architecture methodologies and practices

Other Accountabilities

  • Create delivery guides, assessments, and common architecture patterns for cloud architecture projects.
  • Collaborate with cloud engineers and developers to deliver end-to-end solutions for clients.
  • Implement best practices for backup and recovery techniques for applications in GCP, Azure private cloud focusing on continuous deployment, cloud security, governance, configuration management, and continuous integration.
  • Design systems integrations, ingestion patterns, target and transition architectures, and roadmaps.
  • Resolve Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and Return on Investment (ROI) for the data platform and data products.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement scalable and efficient solutions.
  • Drive the adoption of DevOps best practices to streamline data pipeline implementation and maintenance.
  • Provide expertise in API integration and data governance for smooth data flows across systems.
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends in engineering and analytics.
  • Mentor and guide junior team members, fostering a culture of learning and growth.
  • Collaborating on Capital Markets projects in some of the following areas:
    • Global Markets Trading
    • Capital and Investment Banking
    • Prime Services
    • E-Trading
    • Global Transaction Banking
    • Market and Credit Risk
      • Demonstrable experience in the design of large-scale risk engines, both batch and intraday, serving multiple regions
      • An understanding of valuation and risk measures. An understanding of data dimensionality for different risk measures
      • Experience in building reporting solutions for stakeholders (FO, Market Risk Management...)
      • An understanding of trade lifecycle and trade modelling for risk analytics
      • An understanding of market data lifecycle (curve rolls, bootstrapping) and modelling for risk analytics
      • A high-level understanding of risk analytics and how they operate internally.

You must ensure that you are fully aware of your management reporting lines and escalation procedures.

If you are a Manager/Supervisor you are also responsible for ongoing and effective supervision of the employees under your direction and ensure their adherence to regulatory requirements. You will promptly report to TD Management and Compliance any violation or possible violation of such regulatory requirements identified as part of your supervisory responsibilities.

You must take reasonable steps to demonstrate that you exercise due skill, care and diligence in managing and/or delegating your responsibilities outlined, appropriately.

It is your responsibility to be fully aware of:

  • The scope of your management responsibilities.
  • The TD Policies and regulatory requirements pertaining to the business/activities you are managing.
  • The competence level of the staff, if any, reporting to you.
  • The control limits and your ability, if any, to delegate them within your business.
  • Demonstrate that you receive adequate and appropriate management reporting.
