Job Description:

The Senior User Experience Designer plays a key role in leading problem exploration and early-stage design through primary and secondary user research, concept exploration, and prototyping. They also support and conduct user and market research activities to understand customer problems at all stages of the design process. When on projects, the Sr. UX Designer works within a multidisciplinary team, consisting of product owners, business analysts, developers, and interns. Additionally, they will work closely with in-house developers to help actualize design work to a proof-of-concept level. Beyond project work, a core part of the Sr. UX Designer role is to mentor UX Design interns. The Designer will be expected to work closely with these students to execute work, provide guidance, knowledge, and support. This is a unique opportunity to work on a highly collaborative team, learn continuously, unleash your creativity, and move quickly, leveraging our Innovation Framework.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct or review market research through primary and secondary sources to deeply understand customer problems and their root cause.
  • Apply user centered design methodologies to ensure ideas are accessible and based on customer needs e.g., building personas, storyboards, flowcharts, wireframes and prototypes
  • Lead Human Centered Design activities across the pods, including Design Thinking activities, process flows, sitemaps, etc.
  • Design functional and intuitive interfaces that are thoroughly backed by user research methodologies, including user interviews, field observations, usability testing, and other forms of user need-finding.
  • Deliver interactive prototypes for early-stage concepts through the creation of sketches, wireframes, user flow diagrams and storyboards.
  • Effectively communicate research findings, conceptual ideas, detailed design, and design rationale both verbally and visually.
  • Work closely with development teams to ensure that design specifications are implemented.
  • Participate and support team standups and pod meetings to drive solution development and ensure solution is aligned with user needs.
  • Build or present product demos enabling socialization of early-stage solutions.
  • Collaborate with other designers to build and socialize a universal Design Library by helping create and implement components and set guidelines for usage.
  • Work closely with a co-op student in a mentorship role, and conduct resume reviews and interviews to hire co-ops each term.
  • Continuously enhance knowledge / expertise in own area and keep current with leading-edge technologies, emerging trends, and grow expertise of the business, applications, analytical tools and techniques.
  • Support a positive work environment that promotes service to the business, quality, innovation and teamwork and ensure timely communication of issues / points of interest.

Job Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree or relevant experience/education in a design related discipline
  • 5+ years of experience, preferably in preferably in UX, visual, and/or interaction design
  • Design experience for mobile and web platforms
  • Experience conducting user research and user testing
  • Love of collaboration
  • Proven ability to generate assets for build phases
  • Strong communication skills to articulate design decisions and rationale to team members
  • Able to multitask, prioritize projects, and communicate progress and expected milestones
  • Experienced track record of maintaining high quality of designs throughout all phases of a project
  • Proficiency using Figma/Figjam for all stages of the design process, including ideation, low to high fidelity designs, and prototyping
  • Expert level, professional role requiring in-depth knowledge / expertise in design domain
  • Uses advanced methods to contribute to new solutions and recommend standards within area of expertise
  • Solves complex problems requiring analysis of multiple variables, including consultation with multiple stakeholders
  • Works within broad guidelines/policies and independently performs tasks from end to end
  • Previous experience as a mentor, an asset
