Job Description:

Who we are: TD Insruance, is one of Canada's largest financial institutions and part of TD Bank Group, helps protect clients with a range of insurance products including: Life & Health, Credit Protection, Travel, Home, and Auto Insurance.

The Opportunity:

As Senior Underwriter, Life & Health, you will play a key role in supporting the term life and credit protection business. Reporting to the AVP, Product Underwriting and Governance & Control, you will:

• Evaluate facultative risk referrals with sound underwriting judgment.

• Deliver timely decisions while ensuring SLAs and client service standards are met.

• Provide counseling and expertise to the underwriting team to ensure quality and consistency.

• Manage case backlogs effectively and work collaboratively with third-party vendors such as Dynacare and ExamOne.

• Drive the highest quality of service delivery while maintaining strong governance practices.

• Assume a strategic mindset with the motivation and attitude to take on longer-term strategic responsibilities.

This role is ideal for candidates eager to work in an entrepreneurial environment and who have the communication skills and confidence to engage daily with senior-level executives and colleagues. The successful candidate will play a critical role in raising the profile of TD Insurance's service offering in Canada while supporting its corporate objectives.

What You Bring:

• Extensive experience in life and health underwriting (term life and credit protection products preferred).

• Proven ability to deliver timely, high-quality underwriting decisions.

• Strong organizational skills to manage case backlogs and meet critical deadlines.

• Excellent communication skills with the confidence to collaborate with senior executives, colleagues, and external vendors.

• Strategic mindset with a drive to contribute to long-term corporate objectives.

• Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while upholding governance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct risk assessments and classifications in line with TD Insurance Life & Health and Credit Protection philosophy and standards.

• Provide sound underwriting judgment on facultative cases, with approval authority up to $10 million.

• Manage all aspects of the underwriting process efficiently and effectively.

• Offer leadership, mentorship, and training resources to underwriters at all levels, including feedback on team performance and career development plans.

• Communicate with clients and collaborate with head office colleagues to ensure the highest quality of service.

• Maintain strong, effective relationships with internal and external partners.

• Serve as a team liaison with other departments to foster collaboration.

• Ensure compliance with consumer laws and regulations regarding risk classification, confidentiality, and disclosures.

• Identify and propose solutions to challenges and procedural gaps in the underwriting process.

• Promote an atmosphere of trust with clients and facilitate the acceptance of underwriting decisions.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in science, Pharmacy, Medicine, or a related field.

• Minimum of 10+ years of underwriting experience in Life & Health insurance.

FALU or AALU certification is mandatory.

• Proven approval authority for cases up to $10 million.

• LOMA Customer Service Certification required.

• Strong industry knowledge with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to adapt to a changing underwriting environment.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with solid computer proficiency.

• Demonstrated ability to:

• Manage and develop teams effectively, fostering talent growth.

• Work effectively in team environments with a client-focused approach (internal and external).

Bilingual proficiency in English and French is a strong asset.
