Department Overview

TD Securities' (TDS) Governance & Control (G&C) team partners with the TDS businesses globally to oversee the design, implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of effective internal controls to ensure business activities remain within TD Bank's risk appetite and comply with regulatory requirements.

The team is responsible for overseeing the timely and consistent implementation - across all TDS businesses - of all risk, control and governance programs, initiatives, policies, and strategic business projects. The TDS G&C team acts as the primary contact for the TDS businesses, working closely with subject matter experts from each TDS business line. The team works together with the business leaders to implement Enterprise and TDS policies, frameworks, methodologies, standards, and practices and are key members of enterprise projects / programs requiring TDS representation.

Job Description

Reporting to the AVP & Managing Director, TDS G&C, the primary role of this Senior Manager & Director, is to support TDS Global Markets businesses in adhering to the applicable TDS Algos and Models Standards requirements, managing risk and having effective operational controls in place for these programs. The role will work with business heads and stakeholders, technology stakeholders and internal partners including Algo Risk Control (ARC), Model Risk, Model Validation, Compliance, Audit and regional leadership to ensure deliverables, requirements, remediations are planned and delivered.

As part of the key accountabilities of the role, the individual will be expected to:

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of Capital Markets / eTrading businesses globally.
  • Working to mature the Algo, Model risk governance programs.
  • Build and maintain partnership with 2nd Line functions including Algo Risk Control (ARC), Compliance, Operational Risk, Model Risk Management, and Model Validation.
  • Provide guidance to the Global Market businesses for any of these programs ensuring alignment to the Standards.
  • Enhance processes to increase speed to market while aligning with risk appetite and regional requirements.
  • Participate in the various meetings, working groups, forums and committees.
  • Recognize emerging trends, issues and opportunities and recommend actions to both management and business as required.
  • Evolve procedures for Issues Management including the timely identification, escalation, and remediation of Operational Risk Events, Audit Findings, and regulatory violations.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years' experience with the capital markets asset classes (e.g. fixed income, FX, equity/FI/FX derivatives, commodities)
  • Experience with end-to-end capital markets operations, organizational awareness, familiarity with capital markets supporting functions (e.g. back-office operations, market risk, capital/finance functions, etc..)
  • Solid knowledge and direct experience with Algo Trading strategies in a 1st or 2nd line function (e.g. Sales & Trading, Governance & Controls, Technology, Compliance, Risk function).
  • Solid knowledge of risk management and/or Governance & Controls experience within any of the Three Lines of Defense functions.
  • Solid knowledge and experience in reviewing and challenging business teams in meeting standards, testing approach, operational controls, remediation path.
  • Experience as a people leader focused on a strong coaching culture, talent development and employee experience through recognition.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills.
  • Flexibility to quickly adapt to changing and ambiguous initiatives or requirements and ability to work collaboratively across functions and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective time management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills to meet tight timeframes.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, as well as confident presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to take the initiative and either work independently or in a team environment.
