Department Overview

TD Direct Investing ("DI") is Canada's largest online DIY investing provider, empowering self-directed investors and traders with its full spectrum of powerful solutions to manage their investments with ease and confidence.

The DI Segment Strategy team is responsible for leading the overarching strategy and priorities of the Direct Investing business with focuses on the investor and active trader segments. To execute against the strategies as designed by this team, the team partners with colleagues across the DI business and enterprise.

Job Description

We are seeking a highly strategic and experienced Senior Lead to drive our business forward in the retail brokerage market, with a particular focus on new to investing and long-term investor segments. In particular, the ideal candidate would have demonstrated proven results in product management and strategy in the retail brokerage, fintech, or general wealth management industry. As a senior individual contributor, you will develop and execute business strategies that cater to the aforementioned key customer segments, shaping priorities across product, marketing, distribution and many other teams to drive long-term engagement and financial growth. This role requires deep industry knowledge, data-driven insights, and the ability to influence cross-functional teams while aligning strategies with overall business objectives.

The ideal candidate will have proven experiences in past roles influencing business leaders and supporting decision making in rapidly evolving environments. This role requires someone who can navigate ambiguity and interdependence, and drive others towards outcomes and results, while demonstrating humility and partnership. This role has regular interaction with senior leadership at TD Direct Investing and therefore requires strong interpersonal and communication skills.

This role is equivalent to Senior Manager roles within TD for compensation and levelling.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Thought Leader for Key Segments: Be the thought leader to develop and execute strategies focused on growing and serving both new investors and long-term, experienced investors.
  • Customer Insights & Market Segmentation: Conduct in-depth research on competitors, market dynamics, and customer behavior, particularly focusing on the needs of novice investors and long-term users. Use these insights to influence partner teams (e.g., marketing, distribution, product, etc.) to prioritize initiatives across the business.
  • Growth & Revenue Optimization: Identify strategic opportunities to grow revenue and expand our market presence by creating products and services tailored to new investors entering the market, as well as to long-term investors seeking more advanced tools and features.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product management, marketing, distribution, and finance teams to ensure that initiatives for new and long-term investors are aligned with broader business strategies and KPIs.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Explore opportunities for partnerships that enhance the customer experience for new and long-term investors, such as collaborations with financial education platforms, fintech companies, or financial advisors.
  • Market & Competitive Intelligence: Keep current on industry trends, competitor offerings, and regulatory changes to identify new opportunities and challenges that impact both novice and seasoned retail investors. Provide actionable insights to senior leadership.
  • Performance Monitoring & Adjustment: Partner with or data science and analytics teams to track the performance of strategies targeting new and long-term investors through relevant KPIs such as customer acquisition, retention rates, portfolio growth, and engagement metrics. Adjust strategies based on data insights and market shifts.

Job Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, mathematics or related field
  • Experience: 7+ years of experience, with progressively increasing level of responsibility that span strategy, product, or business development roles within the retail brokerage, fintech, or financial services sectors.
  • Segment and Industry Expertise: Proven track record of developing strategies that cater to different customer segments, especially new to investing and long-term investors. With a deep understanding of the retail brokerage landscape, including emerging trends, regulatory requirements, and competitive offerings.
  • Financial Acumen and Data Skills: Proficiency in financial analysis, business modeling, and understanding of key performance indicators (KPIs) specific to retail brokerage. High proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and the MS Office Suite, and interest in developing advanced querying / modeling skills (SQL and Tableau) to pull your own data
  • Collaboration & Influence: Ability to influence decisions through effective verbal and written communication, logical reasoning, and the presentation of alternatives. With proven record of influencing cross-functional teams and working with stakeholders at all levels without direct managerial authority.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with the regulatory landscape affecting retail investing and the unique considerations required for serving new and long-term investors.
  • A Positive Attitude and Hustle: You have a desire to work hard, be creative, resourceful, stay curious, and maintain a can-do approach
