Position Summary

We are looking for an experienced and passionate Sr. Managing Engineer, Payments Operations family to join the TD Securities Production Engineering team and work together with Change the Bank and Run the Bank teams in creating the next generation of innovative payment solutions. This role requires a strategic thinker who is creative, forward-thinking, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate should have deep SRE experience in payments and platforms, as well as the ability to work with the global team and create innovative solutions for modernization, stability, resiliency and drive the team towards success.

The duties and accountabilities include but not limited to:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the strategy for payment solutions, ensuring alignment with Prod Engineering with rest of the stake holders.
  • Work closely with Change the Bank, Production Engineering, and Infrastructure teams for development of cutting-edge payment solutions, focusing on modernization, stability, and resiliency.
  • Work closely with Change the Bank and Run the Bank teams to ensure seamless integration and operation.
  • Provide deep technical knowledge in payments and platforms, guiding and training the team through complex challenges.
  • Hands-on production support experience with distributed and mainframe payment applications.

Technical Expertise Required:

  • Proven experience supporting SWIFT based payments applications.
  • Experience working as a Payment SRE within financial industry.
  • Prior Production support experience working with payments operations and to address payments SLA's.
  • Canadian Lynx Payments RAIL experience is a huge plus.
  • In-depth understanding of payment platform architecture, including microservices, APIs, and cloud-native designs.
  • Expertise in designing scalable, high-availability systems that support real-time payments and large transaction volumes.
  • Experience with integrating modern platforms with legacy systems (e.g., mainframes) and external partners (e.g., SWIFT, ACH, Fedwire).
  • Prior experience supporting payment Sanctions, AML, Compliance
  • Experience with platform engineering, including cloud-native architectures, Microservices and messaging services including KAFKA and MQ.
  • Experience supporting payment applications hosted on Mainframe systems.
  • Deep hands-on experience developing high performing, mission critical payment systems. Automate BAU tasks to reduce toil and increase payment systems efficiency.
  • Reduce the toils while responding to Incidents and improvise platform by building reliable, fault-tolerant, efficiently scalable, and cost-effective data, micro services, and infrastructure.
  • Maintain services once they are live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency and overall system health using observability tools like Dynatrace, Splunk, Datadog.
  • Transform and modernize our Payment application management services (AMS) via DecSecOps, AIOps, SRE and Production Engineering tooling, core capabilities, and the best practices.
  • Support the application CI/CD pipeline for promoting software into production environments through validation and operational gating, and lead in DevSecOps automation and best practices.
  • Knowledge of using middleware and API gateways for seamless data exchange between disparate systems.
  • Proficiency in cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and cloud migration strategies.
  • Expertise in containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and serverless architectures.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of external development, engineering and emerging solutions, market conditions and their impact.

• Programming Languages:

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Cobol, Python, and C++.

• Database Management:

  • Expertise in database technologies like SQL, NoSQL, Oracle and data warehousing solutions.

• Security:

  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and practices, especially in the context of financial transactions.

• DevSecOps:

  • Experience with DevOps practices and tools, including CI/CT/CD, Git , Bitbucket, Jenkins ,containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and infrastructure as code (Ansible).

• Regulatory Compliance:

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance standards in the financial industry across multiple regions (NAMR, Europe, and APAC)

Minimum requirements

  • Minimum 8+ years of work experience in technology and minimum 5 years of payments industry experience
  • Excellent Communication, Leadership and Organizational Skills
  • Strong Business and technical knowledge
  • Demonstrated strong & problem-solving skills and ability to engage in substantive dialogue on complex issues.
  • Ability to work independently yet collaborate in a global team environment.
  • Experience In Developing and Executing Product Strategies
  • Knowledge Of Payments Platforms
  • Familiarity With International Payments Regulations
  • Familiarity with LYNX, SWIFT and ISO payments Standard

The VP Technology Solutions TDB understands business products, business strategies and customer usage of products with ability to translate content into a IT architecture that describes key functional and non-functional requirements. Responsibilities include familiarity with business strategy I processes and expertise in designing business solutions that link disparate processes and application systems, ability to communicate a deep understanding of the business and a broad knowledge of technology and applications, design the target application I services architecture and assess the impact of the future business architecture on existing and future applications, identify the techniques and technologies that should be applied at the application level, defining the information architecture in compliance with corporate policies and standards, and working with business partners and technology teams to define the organization, storage and flow of data to support effective information delivery.

Depth & Scope:

  • Works with the business and application development teams to develop the target state IT architecture model
  • Understands business products, business strategies and customer usage of products
  • Understands business process flows and makes suggestions on how to re-engineer them for higher efficiency
  • Helps review business drivers, needs and strategies and understands implications to the application architecture
  • Identifies, assesses, and documents business requirements for applications and information I data
  • Develops the IT architecture based the key functional and non-functional requirements from the business and technology teams
  • Works with the development teams to develop the logical data model and ensures efficient flows of information through business processes
  • Provides input to the development of project initiation documents including objectives, scope, approach, and deliverables, when needed
  • Analyzes and evaluates existing and future business architecture for compatibility with corporate standards and policies
  • Provides input to buy vs. build decisions based on technology and business requirements
  • Provides support I guidance to the development teams during the analysis, development and testing processes
  • Provides expert knowledge of application architecture
  • Prepares information architecture deliverables in accordance with corporate standards and methodologies and consistent with the target business architecture
  • Assists in the creation and successful execution of testing scenarios that ensure the information data flows according to the information architecture design
  • Communicates risks and implications of architectural decisions, issues and plans
  • Partners with change management to analyze and communicate organizational impact and potential change management issues of proposed business architectures to relevant stakeholders
  • Participates in business and technology planning sessions and anticipates future business I technology changes
  • Establishes strong working relationships with the business and other technology team members
  • Participates in and supports cross technology process improvement initiatives
  • Manages individual workload and delivers to agreed-upon project milestones
  • Actively participates in HR performance measurement processes
  • Coaches I mentors other team members as appropriate
  • Demonstrates governance, control and risk management behaviors in alignment with TD policies and practices

Education & Experience:

  • College degree, or specialized training / equivalent work experience
  • 5-7 Years of related experience
  • Must be detail oriented and possess problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and establish priorities
  • Proficient in interpersonal communication (both oral and written), and have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and management
