Department Overview

The Wealth Shared Services, Governance & Control (WSS G&C) team is responsible for managing the enterprise regulatory compliance and operational risk programs across the TD Wealth segment. The team enables multiple Wealth business units through the timely and consistent implementation of control and governance programs, initiatives, policies and standards.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Governance & Control, this position will be primarily responsible for enabling multiple Wealth lines of business with the implementation of the enterprise regulatory compliance and operational risk program by delivering an effective Issues Management framework. This role directly anchors back to enterprise Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) standards and Operational Risk Management (ORM) requirements. Aligning to the Wealth Shared Services, Strategic Priorities, is a critical component to the role's mandate.

Primary Responsibilities

As part of the key accountabilities of the role, the Manager will:

  • Support and facilitate identification and remediation of Wealth Canada issues.
  • Partner with risk owners and key stakeholders to confirm issues are identified and captured in MERLIN (enterprise issues management book of reord).
  • Oversee issues/findings to support committed milestones are met for remediation and are actioned by the Wealth colleagues appropriately, and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to determine root cause (people, process, technology, etc.) and associate back to major risk categories impacted (compliance/regulatory, operational, vendor, etc.).
  • Assess and determine rationale and factors tied to severity ratings (organizational impact, potential financial loss, reputational impact, etc.).
  • Perform effective 1B challenge of remediation plans and issue resolution.
  • Effectively manage ad-hoc governance, risk management and control projects or tasks of varying complexities within established deadlines.
  • Establish strong relationships which includes facilitating an efficient interaction model with Wealth colleagues and Control Partners such as Compliance, Risk Management, GAML, and Internal Audit.
  • Monitor, track, and report issues to appropriate Oversight Committees and Stakeholders.
  • Implement governance and control processes to confirm risks are mitigated and clearly identify control performer ownership within Wealth business units.
  • Manage and lead governance and oversight forums and develop high-quality presentation materials.
  • Support and/or lead informing various executive level materials with relevant and accurate content.
  • Foster an environment and culture that encourages productivity, innovation, process improvement, teamwork, and a high level of professionalism.

Job Requirements

  • University or Post-Graduate degree
  • Minimum 5 years regulatory compliance (CIRO, OSC, etc.), internal audit and/or risk management experience (financial services industry preferred).
  • Experience and knowledge of wealth business unit processes including registerable activities.
  • Professional accounting/auditing/risk management designation would be considered an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, resourceful team player with high energy and ability to work independently.
  • Comfortable leading through transformational change and recognized as a champion for continuous improvement.
  • Strong analytical/research skills & business acumen with the ability to breakdown complex subjects into manageable parts in a systematic manner & assess risk/challenge the status quo.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills.
  • Effective time management, multi-tasking and organizational skills to meet tight timeframes as well as flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Deliverable-focused.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently and in a team environment.
  • Confident presentation and facilitation skills
