Job Description:

The Head of US Engineering Modernization leads and manages modernization team focused on automation, and DevOps practices, driving high performance and accountability.

Depth & Scope:

  • Provides people management leadership by hiring the best talent, setting goals, developing staff, managing employee performance and compensation decisions, promoting teamwork and handling any/all disciplinary actions, as required
  • Fosters a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and innovation, ensuring that engineering practices evolve in line with industry trends
  • Leads the modernization of legacy systems, ensuring the transition to cloud-based or microservices architectures where appropriate
  • Oversees the migration of on-premise infrastructure to cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP), ensuring minimal disruption and optimized costs
  • Collaborates with architects and product teams to design future-proof systems that are scalable, maintainable, and secure
  • Promotes and drives the adoption of cloud-native technologies and frameworks
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvements and automation using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, Ansible, Terraform, and others
  • Oversees the creation and maintenance of automated testing pipelines, continuous integration (CI), and continuous delivery (CD) systems
  • Promotes the automation of monitoring, incident response, and recovery processes to ensure a proactive engineering approach
  • Leads the implementation of DevOps principles and practices across the organization, integrating development and operations teams for a seamless and agile workflow
  • Ensures the continuous integration and delivery pipelines are optimized for speed, security, and reliability.
  • Establishes best practices for containerization, orchestration, and cloud infrastructure using tools like Docker, Kubernetes
  • Works closely with product managers, engineering teams, IT, and business stakeholders to ensure alignment between business objectives and technical initiatives

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in leadership roles focusing on modernization, automation, and DevOps
  • Extensive experience in leading large-scale modernization efforts, migrating legacy systems to cloud-based or microservices architectures
  • Proven experience with DevOps methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code
  • Strong track record of driving automation initiatives and improving operational efficiency through technology
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams and collaborating with diverse stakeholders, including development, operations, and security teams

Technical Skills:

  • Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and orchestration technologies
  • Proficient in DevOps tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Puppet, etc.
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release management
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and modern software engineering practices
  • Strong knowledge of monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Dynatrace, Splunk, Grafana)
  • Understanding of system performance optimization, scalability, and fault-tolerant design principles
  • Experience in implementing serverless architectures and cloud-native applications
