Overview:
We are seeking a Senior Technology Lead to spearhead the technical and strategic development of a vast and complex data backbone for our investment banking division, with a focus on capital markets. This role is ideal for a highly skilled technologist with extensive experience in high-performance computing, multithreaded applications, and modern data technologies.
As a key player in our organization, you will act as both the Product Owner and Technical Lead, defining the strategic roadmap and ensuring seamless technical delivery for mission-critical systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the strategic vision, roadmap, and execution of a high-performance data backbone supporting capital markets.
- Own end-to-end delivery, from design and development to production deployment and ongoing maintenance.
- Architect and implement multithreaded, concurrent applications using Java and other cutting-edge technologies.
- Oversee the integration and optimization of big data databases and frameworks, including but not limited to Cassandra, Apache Ignite, Kafka, and similar technologies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including trading, risk management, and data science, to ensure alignment with business objectives.
- Establish best practices for scalability, performance, and reliability in high-frequency, low-latency environments.
- Act as a mentor and technical guide for team members, fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence.
Technology:

Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in capital markets technology, with a deep understanding of trading workflows, market data, and risk systems.
- Expertise in high-performance computing, including multithreading, concurrent programming, and low-latency systems.
- Proven experience with big data technologies such as Cassandra, Apache Ignite, Kafka, and related ecosystems.
- Advanced proficiency in Java, with exposure to other programming languages as a plus.
- Strong knowledge of system architecture, including distributed systems, caching, and data replication.
- Familiarity with cloud-based architectures (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is a plus.
- Demonstrated success in a product ownership role, including defining roadmaps and managing technical delivery.
- Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills, with a hands-on approach to technology.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
The Director Technology Solutions TDB is responsible for managing multiple, broad and highly complex teams and/or projects which are diverse in scope. This role is responsible for setting the direction at an operational level, works autonomously in the management of the unit and collaborates with other business heads to establish and execute on the strategic direction of the business units Computing and networking infrastructure.
Depth & Scope:
- Develops the strategic direction of Compute and Network Infrastructure
- Directs/manages a large group of IT professionals
- Directs/manages large-scale applications/ projects across multiple product lines/ businesses, involving significant scope and complexity
- Understands strategic direction (including financials) and champions alliances to benefit the Bank and/or department; advocates for operational improvements to enhance the divisions value to the organization
- Directs the development of resolutions, plans and strategies for operational advancement
- Manages the development, delivery and/or support of products and services for a range of business partners to support them in meeting business objectives/ goals
- Manages the integration of all systems, projects and technical interfaces to ensure a high level of service and support to the client and efficient system operation
- Makes decisions to build/buy/reuse system components to meet business expectations and project deliverables
- Measures and monitors the level of service, analyzes trends, agrees on service target levels, and determines appropriate actions
- Complies with the system development life cycle (SDLC) and project management methodology (PMLC) - including development of project plans, documentation of system requirements, estimates of scope and cost, etc
- Conducts/oversees IT planning with internal clients, prioritize activities and allocate resources consistent with business strategy and objectives
- Negotiates and documents project deliverables, timelines, project charters / costing, roles, responsibilities and critical milestones
- Ensures operational, reputational, and proprietary risks are minimized and focus on process improvement
- Supports/Develops sound business cases with an on-going focus on reusability, scalability, innovation, and enterprise-wide solutions
- Establishes project teams and ensure agreed deliverables are communicated and delivered within time, budget and quality parameters
- Ensures all testing, quality assurance and post-implementation reviews are conducted against critical success factors, per the project plan and objectives
- Improves timeliness of delivery while balancing quality and price of solutions / services offered
- Manages appropriate recovery of costs to ensure effective cost management within own area and develop / manage budgets for IT related activities
- Follows process management discipline for change management of all systems managed
- Ensures compliance with IT Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) and the departments Business Recovery Plan (BRP)
- Enhances knowledge/expertise in own area and keep current with industry and/or business trends
- Ensures a close relationship is maintained with clients, in order to keep informed of their business needs and direction
- Measures the level of service to business partners, analyze trends, and determine appropriate actions where applicable
- Maintains effective dialogue with regulatory bodies and standards organizations
- Identifies vendors/ TDBG areas able to provide IT related services and partner with clients in developing business cases, RFI / RFP, etc. consistent with business requirements and guidelines
- Manages vendor relationships; ensure timely/accurate communication and resolution of issues; monitor billings/expenses against contracts; prioritize new/existing projects
- Acts as an integrator of solutions, provide flexibility, and ensure a good understanding of technology choices by offering and negotiating options with the clients
- Communicates project status and provide timely escalation of issues to ensure project objectives are met
- Acts as an expert consultant / resource in Infrastructure strategy, architecture and design, internally and externally
- Provides insight, information and recommendations on industry trends and significant issues
- Promotes/develops IT awareness and technical understanding of business partners / clients
- Develop and manage a team of professional resources by recruiting, training, coaching and conducting performance assessment of team members
- Promotes and supports an environment that encourages productivity, innovation, teamwork, and a high level of professionalism
- Provides leadership to attract/retain high quality people, including appropriate employee communication, sound structure/processes, succession planning, etc
- Contributes to the management team by sharing knowledge / expertise and contributing to sound decisions
- Participates in knowledge transfer ensure timely and accurate communication of business objectives throughout the group and articulate the group mandate to other areas
- Coaches team members and provide ongoing feedback to ensure achievement of business, department and individual goals. Works effectively as a team, supporting other members of the team in achieving business objectives and providing client services
- Fosters a cohesive team environment within own team and across IT as a whole
Education & Experience:
- Bachelors degree in technology, business, or related field, or equivalent work experience
- 5-7 years of IT experience with 3 years of this experience within the financial services industry
- Alternatively, experience with consulting or auditing in regards to IT, completing enterprise risk assessments. Management experience is a plus
- Expert knowledge of Bank and technology standards (e.g., infrastructure, architecture, processes, applications) from a strategic perspective and managing/ directing teams and projects Advanced and thorough understanding of businesses and/or organizational practices/ disciplines
- Sound knowledge of external competition, industry and/or market trends in relation to own business
- Must have a strong understanding of internal controls, with a good understanding of operations
- Bank regulatory knowledge a plus
- Ability to manage multiple roles and projects
- Must be detail oriented and possess problem-solving skills
- Must be very self-motivated, working independently under minimum supervision
- Excellent analytical skills are required
- Must be able to handle complex control issues or unknown processes
- Project management skills are needed
