Job Description:
The Data Steward II provides data governance expertise, business leadership, and leads on day to day data governance and activities. Appointed as a Data Steward for their business, providing oversight and challenge for data-related activities. May also play a role in supporting the business' data strategy.
Depth & Scope:
- Retains knowledge of industry and practices, including any relevant accreditation and/or testing (internal and external), as required
- Partners closely with Technology and other SMEs to drive the successful implementation of the LOB's Data Strategy for low to medium complexity data environments / initiatives
- Responsible for supporting the delivery of activities within the LOB Data Strategy
- Highly seasoned professional role requiring substantial knowledge / expertise in a complex field and knowledge of broader related areas
- Integrates knowledge of the enterprise sub-function's or business line's overarching strategy in developing solutions across multiple functions or operations
- Interprets internal / external business challenges and the industry environment, recommends course of action and best practices to improve products, processes or services
- Acts as a technical expert / lead integrating cross-function understanding within their own field of specialty; may manage team(s) of related specialists
- Leads cross-functional teams or projects with significant resource requirements, risk and / or complexity
- Independently manages end-to-end functional programs
- Solves or may lead others to solve complex problems; leads efforts or partners with others to develop new solutions
- Uses sophisticated analytical thought to exercise judgement and identify solutions

- Identifies, measures and monitors current and emerging data related risks in day-to-day activities, operations, products and services within the Business, to ensure activities are within TD's Risk Appetite and policies
- Governs and provides oversight of data under their stewardship, acting as a focal point for data governance within the Line of Business
- Ensures their Line of Business (LOB) adheres to data related policies, standards and meets requirements set out by the Enterprise Data and Information Management Policy and Standards
- Designs, implements, and maintains LOB-specific processes, templates, and appropriate mitigating controls, to support enterprise data policy and standards and ensure effective management and control of LOB data
- Ensures data-related activities are compliant with applicable laws and regulations
- Provides 1st line oversight and challenge of LOB data management activities, including metadata and data quality management, data retention and disposition within BAU processes, projects, programs and change initiatives
- Escalates data risks and issues and provide advice and support to business owners in development and implementation of action plans for issue resolution
- Works in partnership with control partners (i.e., Technology Risk Management, Legal, Privacy, Office of the Chief Data Officer (OCDO), LOB First Line of Defense partners, etc.) to protect the Bank's data assets
- Delivers training, tools, and advice to support the governance and oversight of data
- Supports and helps define the Line of Business data strategy
- Promotes a strong data risk management culture
Education & Experience:
- Undergraduate degree or technical certificate
- 7+ years relevant experience
- Advanced knowledge of data governance/data management practices, enterprise data policy, standards &strategy
- Advanced knowledge of M&A due diligence process, LOB data strategy, data risk management, and data life cycle management
- Knowledge of current and emerging competitor and market trends
- Skill in using analytical software tools, data analysis methods and reporting techniques
- Skill in mentoring/coaching others
- Skill in using computer applications including MS Office
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
- Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships
- Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently
- Ability to exercise sound judgement in making decisions
- Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines

Customer Accountabilities:
- Acts as a strategic partner by leading relationships with key enterprise partners and interfacing with respective leadership team to effectively manage own data governance area and clarify scope of accountabilities while influencing and aligning others as needed
- Develops, communicates and implements a holistic strategy for own specific data governance function in support of and integrated with the overall business strategy
- Provides the Business with framework and guidance on identification of critical data and critical data elements
- Leads the governance and oversight of LOB data management activities, including metadata, data quality, data retention and disposition tasks
- Leads the oversight of data issue resolution and drive data issue governance processes within the LOB, supporting an enterprise view while encouraging shared solutions of common data challenges
- Conducts day to day data governance activities for their respective business or function
- Identifies, measures, and monitors current and emerging data related risks in day-to-day activities, operations, products and services within the Business
- Contributes to the strategic direction of the data governance / management function and play a key role in the development and implementation of strategies in support of the overall data strategy
- Leads / supports the business's Segment Data Council
- Provides direction and/or input to complex, wide ranging enterprise or cross-function / business projects / initiatives as a data governance expert, supporting the inclusion of data driven considerations in all projects impacting the business or functional group
- Plans, leads / manages and/or oversees a diverse set of business data governance and control work activities requiring alignment / coordination across multiple areas, including projects policies / processes / procedures / changes in across multiple functional areas
- Leads partner to management / leadership and respective teams for area of specialization with industry, external and internal, enterprise and business awareness; recognizing and anticipating emerging trends and; identifying issues and opportunities and recommending action to senior management
- Work effectively with multiple teams across a broad spectrum of initiatives and functional domains, influencing and aligning others as needed
- Provides functional / business level communications to ensure messages to stakeholders and / or employees are consistent, appropriate and aligned to business strategies and executive management direction
- Facilitates key discussions and provides thought leadership to executive audience on existing and emerging data related activities
- Forecasts programs / initiatives and demand, for own business
- Supports the identification of business data owners and business data SMEs for the LOB and ensure LOB adherence to enterprise data policies and standards
- Leads the socialization and training of the LOB data governance and data management community on data policies, procedures, tools, and templates
- Partners with the business to proactively prepare for internal / regulatory data-related requests
- Develops processes to create timely, complete and accurate reporting to inform on areas of increasing data risk
