Job Description:

The Executive Vice President & Chief Auditor is responsible for providing independent and objective assurance to the Board of Directors designed to add value and improve the Banks operations. This is achieved by bringing a systematic and disciplined approach to evaluating and recommending improvements to the effectiveness of the Banks risk management, control and governance processes in support of the Bank achieving its strategic objectives. The Executive Vice President & Chief Auditor fulfills this responsibility by executing against the Audit Division Mandate / Charter.

Depth & Scope:

  • Provides people management leadership by hiring the best talent, setting goals, developing staff, managing employee performance and compensation decisions, promoting teamwork and handling any/all disciplinary actions, as required
  • Ensures that internal and external resources are sufficient, have appropriate skills, capabilities and technical knowledge, and are effectively deployed to fulfill responsibilities and mandate
  • Establishes an annual plan that is based on a robust risk assessment (including input from senior management and the board) that is periodically updated to enable an ongoing assessment of significant risk
  • Maintains an effective relationship and regular interaction with key stakeholders (as defined in the Audit Division mandate), including appropriate escalation of issuesto them, timely discussion over significant risks, the associated risk mitigation measures and follows up of corrective action outcome
  • Raises to the Audit Committee significant internal audit issues, significant findings not yet rectified by management and/or issues with respect to the relationship and interaction between Audit division and other key stakeholders
  • Provides reporting to the Risk and Audit Committees of the Board of Directors as outlined in the Audit Division Mandate / Charter
  • Maintains an effective relationship with external auditors in the completion of the annual external audits and other related activity
  • Oversees the development of strategies and techniques to ensure compliance with sound internal auditing professional standards and regulatory agency requirements and expectations (as defined in the Audit Division Mandate/Charter), adherence to best practices and optimal productivity and cost-effectiveness
  • As appropriate, oversees the implementation of any special tasks or projects requested by key stakeholders, provided such tasks are not incompatible with other responsibilities, in particular those outlined in the Audit Division Mandate Charter

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or progressive work experience required in addition to experience below
  • 15+ years' progressively responsible experience in public accounting, risk management, or internal auditing management is required
  • Expert knowledge of risk management or auditing principles and practices as well as applicable legal and regulatory statutes
  • Strong ability to delegate authority and establish policies that ensure oversight of delegated authority
  • Ability to analyze business situations and effectively collaborate on overall corporate direction Strategic planning and process management experience
  • Proven senior management and leadership experience with strong financial management background
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking ability and positive public presence
