Release Engineering Team Lead

Job Description

Release Engineering manufactures software in an industrial way that is repeatable, gives predictable results, and scales well.

This candidate will manage a team focused on automating SUSE's software release processes, improving the software build and release pipeline, managing version control, and maintaining the integrity of software production environments to facilitate continuous integration, and ensure rapid and consistent delivery.

Continuous security is part of the CI/CD process and helps ensure the underlying infrastructure and applications don't have vulnerabilities and risks associated with them.

Software supply chain security is of very high importance, and this role will collaborate with Solution Security as well as with IT Cyber Security to ensure both SUSE's products and solutions, as well as its processes and tools used in the design, development, building and delivery thereof will be compliant with ever-evolving security standards and facilitate relevant security certifications.

This team lead will provide SUSE's internal and external Build Services to in-house and external Open Source contributors.

Responsibilities:
  • Manages the secure and cost-effective operation, maintenance and continuous improvement of a software product build infrastucture and process at industrial scale.
  • The candidate will leverage their extensive understanding of source code management, compilers, build configuration languages, automated build tools, package managers, and installers to ensure the development and release of quality software at a reliable and predictable rate.
  • As SUSE strives to "drink its own champagne" by using its own software products to drive its operations, the Release engineering team supports early testing in the development lifecycle to make it better and faster by ensuring quick, early, and efficient debugging ("shift-left testing").
  • This manager provides direct and ongoing leadership for an organization of multiple subordinate managers and individual employees designing and developing new products and tools, enhancements and updates, and managing projects for systems software, including operating systems, and applications.
  • Manages headcount, deliverables, schedules, and costs for multiple ongoing projects and programs, ensuring that resources are appropriately allocated and that goals, objectives, timelines, and budgets are met in accordance with program and organizational roadmaps.
  • Engages with program managers, marketing, supply chain, technical leaders and executives to communicate program status, escalate issues, and guide and influence strategic decision-making
  • Manages relationships with partners and suppliers, including setting expectations regarding deliverables, product quality, schedules, and costs; ensures that team members are effectively communicating and collaborating with other resources.
  • Provides overall people-care management for direct reports, including, hiring, setting and monitoring of annual performance plans, coaching, and career development; drives and fosters organization-wide performance standards, expectations, and practices to support ongoing team member and process development.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Advanced leadership skills, including coaching, teambuilding, conflict resolution, and management.
  • Advanced project management skills including time and risk management, resource prioritization, and project structuring.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Experienced in managing human capital across geographies to drive workforce development and achieve desired results.
  • Advanced communication skills catered to a wide variety of audiences. (e.g. written, verbal, presentation); mastery in English and local language. Knowledge of Czech welcome.
  • Superior business acumen, technical knowledge of multiple business units, and extensive knowledge in applications and technologies as well as Software Supply Chain Security and Software Bill Of Materials (SBOM).
  • Experienced in running services in Common Criteria certified environments.
  • Advanced relationship management skills, including partnering and consulting.
  • Ability to travel internationally on occasion.
