Job Summary:

The Senior User Experience (UX) Designer leads design and research projects and works with other UX and product professionals to develop understanding of end users, foster ideation, validate concepts, and improve designs based on empirical evidence. The Sr UX Designer leverages this understanding to help teams build empathy for users and better understand the problem space.

The Senior UX Designer will independently develop and execute research protocols and design workshops and to independently produce deliverables including, but not limited to, facilitation guides, conceptual diagrams, wireframes, and prototypes. The Senior UX designer must be able to rapidly acquire relevant new skills, be eager to learn from engagements and team members, and model these continuous learning behaviors for the broader team.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a deep understanding of our customers and end users, including their workflows and how they interact with the digital interfaces that support their work, including (but not limited to) electronic health records, pharmacy management systems, payer and PBM systems, and network management tools.
  • Help colleagues in the broader organization deepen their own understanding of customers and end users both by sharing findings from primary research and coaching colleagues as they build skills to generate their own insights.
  • Uncover user needs and pain points in workflows and interactions through generative user research via methods (e.g., interviews, contextual inquiry) and skilled qualitative data analysis.
  • Effectively communicate research findings through both formal and informal methods that emphasize storytelling, make connections to vision and goals, and promote engagement with stakeholders to help the entire product organization build empathy.
  • Work closely with the Director of User-Centered Innovation to define and implement Research Operations including procedures for recruiting, incentives management, data retention, and knowledge management.
  • Support the maturation of the UX function at Surescripts by guiding the UX team in up-skilling with advanced techniques in primary research, data analysis, and validation methods.
  • Design research protocols (including moderated and unmoderated and remote and in person approaches) to collect empirical evidence in response to stimulus (such as wireframes and prototypes) to effectively conduct studies, analyze data, share findings, and collaborate with teams to advance design work iteratively.
  • Direct the work of UX designers and other product professionals when serving as a Lead Designer on projects as designated by the Director of User-Centered Innovation.
  • Work both independently and with other UX designers on the team to advance and refine deliverables such as flow diagrams, personas and journey maps, wireframes, UI mockups, and rudimentary clickable prototypes.

Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in human-Computer Interaction (HCI) or Bachelor's degree in unrelated field and one or more certifications/bootcamp graduation in User Experience Design from reputable organization such as Nielsen Norman Group, Prime Academy, etc. or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in related, progressive roles.
  • 3+ years of experience working independently with one or more industry standard design tools (such as Adobe XD, Axure, Figma, Invision, Sketch).
  • 3+ years of experience conducting generative research using methods such as interviewing, ethnographic observation, etc.
  • 1+ years of experience directly and independently using validation methods such as usability testing, click testing, tree testing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or higher with a focus in information architecture, human computer interaction, interaction design, product design, cognitive psychology, or related discipline.
  • Portfolio demonstrating progressively complex user experience design and/or user-centered research processes and deliverables.
  • Ability to convey understanding of Human-Computer Interaction principles and common user-centered ideation, design, and validation methods through both formal and informal written and spoken communication.
  • Direct experience working with one or more industry standard research tools (such as UserZoom, User Testing, Optimal Workshop, Maze) to set up, run research, and analyze results.
  • Experience with enterprise software and the medical or healthcare domain
  • Experience working with multi-sided networks or marketplaces and/or API driven interfaces.
  • Experience with Rapid Iterative Testing & Evaluation (RITE) methodologies
  • Experience with analytics tools such as Domo, Power BI, Tableau
  • Experience producing deliverables using responsive and/or adaptive design principles for a variety of screen resolutions and/or device sizes.
  • Experience producing deliverables in accordance with WCAG 2.0 or higher accessibility standards
  • Willingness to rapidly acquire skill in new and/or unfamiliar design tools.
  • Eagerness to learn from engagements and team members.
  • Ongoing involvement in the UX community (e.g. meet-ups, clubs, conferences)

At Surescripts, base pay is one part of our Total Rewards Package (which may also include bonus, benefits etc.) and is determined within a range. The base pay range for this position is $132,200 - $161,600 per year. Your base pay may vary within or outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including (but not limited to) your qualifications, skills, experience, and location.
