Job Summary:

The Manager, Technical Communications leads a team of technical writers responsible for developing clear, concise, and accurate written information about Surescripts products and services that aid in their development, use, and support. Outputs of the team are a range of documents including, but not limited to, implementation guides, developer guides, operations guides, user guides, and educational materials for both technical and non-technical personas, both internal and external.

This position works closely with the Director, User-Centered Innovation to operationalize and implement knowledge management and content delivery strategies to mature our growing User Experience practice. The Manager, Technical Communications collaborates closely with product and implementation leaders to understand customer and business needs, and define and execute content strategies that enhance user engagement, comprehension, and agency. This team plays a critical role in enabling our customers to transition away from an analog customer support model to a digital self-service model in the context of our schema-based, standards-driven network.

The Manager, Technical Communications advocates the vision of this content as a valuable business asset throughout the organization. This role leads the team during a period of maturation, as we learn to leverage content models and metadata to facilitate creating, reusing, updating, maintaining, and delivering information for multiple delivery platforms and in a variety of formats enabling the right content for the right audience at the right time.

Responsibilities:

  • Mentor and lead the Technical Communications team to improve the overall competence and effectiveness of team members.
  • Manage the day-to-day priorities of the team and handle assignments and delineation of duties across the team.
  • Work with the Director, User-Centered Innovation and trusted consulting partners to define tools, processes, and practices to support the team's transformation as we establish and maintain content standards, guidelines, and best practices to ensure high quality and consistent content creation.
  • Facilitate the development of a deep understanding of technical end-users, including workflows, information needs, and how they can effectively utilize content in both just-in-time and training, or general reference contexts.
  • Utilize metrics and data analysis to refine content strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives while maintaining a strong focus on producing high-quality educational content.
  • Optimize content and ensure our content meets the needs of our customers and users through rigorous testing and iteration.
  • Work closely with functional leaders and technical teams to develop strong relationships across the organization, acting as an information and content subject matter expert (SME) and trusted advisor.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in technical content creation.

Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., technical writing, communications, computer science) or equivalent work experience.
  • 8+ years proven experience as a Content Strategist, Technical Writer, or similar role with a focus on technical content.
  • 5+ years of experience driving projects independently.
  • Training or experience with software development life cycle processes, including Agile development

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with content management systems and tools for content creation and publishing.
  • Knowledge of SEO principles and best practices for optimizing technical content.
  • Strong analytical skills to track content performance and make data-driven recommendations.
  • Prior experience managing or leading teams
  • Change management experience
  • Exceptional facilitation skills, adept cross-functional collaboration, and persuasive interpersonal and written communication.
  • Accomplished at working both independently and collaboratively to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Willingness to rapidly acquire knowledge in new domains and/or skills with unfamiliar tools.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to align content strategies with overall business goals.
  • Experience using Aha! for product management
  • Experience with enterprise software and the medical or healthcare domain and/or working with multi-sided networks or marketplaces and/or API driven interfaces.
  • Conversant in WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards.
  • Passion for staying up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends.

At Surescripts, base pay is one part of our Total Rewards Package (which may also include bonus, benefits etc.) and is determined within a range. The base pay range for this position is $128,900 - $157,500 per year. Your base pay may vary within or outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including (but not limited to) your qualifications, skills, experience, and location.
