Job Description
Success Academy Charter Schools is seeking innovative Scholar Services Managers (SSM) who understand that the foundation of great education starts with ensuring struggling scholars have access to Special Education services that will enable them to access our instruction and curriculum.

The SSM is critical to Success Academy's mission to build world-class K-12 public schools in NYC by using data and people management skills to advocate for scholars to receive Special Education services, and ensuring school based Special Education teams (Sprint) execute the end-to-end referral process with fidelity. The SSM will manage a cohort of school-based Special Education teams to continuously improve and deliver on securing Special Education services for scholars at their schools. The SSM is a member of the Network Sprint Team, reporting to the Sprint Leads and will be based out of the Network Office with weekly visits to schools.
About SA's Special Education (Sprint) Team:
Sprint teams own advocacy for our students in need of Special Education services. This critical team is responsible for identifying scholars who require Special Education support and ensuring that these students obtain and receive a program of support that meets their needs. Sprint teams are responsible for analyzing a wide range of academic data, including class assessments, specialized evaluations, and teacher reports, building and presenting compelling cases for scholars to receive Special Education services, and ensuring that mandated support is provided with fidelity. Sprint teams must build strong relationships with stakeholders in a child's academic journey, including families, teachers, and service providers, to ensure that all people involved are aligned and able to effectively advocate for their students.
Key role responsibilities:
End-to-end ownership of school Sprint management, including:
Managing a team of 10-15 people across 5 different schools against the Sprint Performance Evaluation Criteria and KPIs
Designing and implementing robust systems for feedback and accountability
Executing process for middle and end of year reviews
Supporting with ongoing performance concerns
Manage the Special Education Identification Process across schools
Analyzing student data to identify students who need academic interventions and/or specialized services
Supporting Sprint teams in using data to build compelling argument that details the need for additional Special Education support
Supporting Sprint teams in presenting strong cases advocating for Special Education support to external stakeholders
Supporting Sprint teams in building strong relationships with families and investing them in the Special Education process
Tightly managing the referral process to keep all stakeholders aware of key actions and deadlines and ensure scholars obtain Special Education services with urgency
Manage Special Education compliance across schools, including
Managing Sprint teams against:
Maintaining clean Special Education records for all scholars utilizing internal data management systems
Ensuring all students with Special Education services are in compliance with their mandated services and accommodations
Collaborating with school leadership and teaching staff to create strong systems that track student progress
Moving quickly to make changes to scholars' Special Education programs when they demonstrate a need for different support
Developing meaningful relationships with students & families to drive students' success
Manage family investment in Special Education, including
Building rapport with families in order to collaborate on the Special Education process
Providing support to families in understanding the Special Education system and SA's approach to Special Education
Assisting families with navigating the Special Education process
Serving as a resource for families by interpreting complex reports, scholar evaluations, and progress monitoring compassionately and transparently
Preparing and empowering families to advocate for their scholars at Special Education meetings
Collaborating with schools and service providers to ensure personalized education plans delivered at a high level
Providing Sprint teams professional development
Identifying growth areas within cohort of schools; collaborating across the SSM team to determine trends across all schools, and designing/executing trainings that ensure team members have the tools and resources to deliver on Sprint outcomes.
Liaising with School Managers and Principals for high needs scholar cases at schools
Ideal candidate:
- 3-5 years of experience managing diverse teams against performance metrics, preferably experience developing
- B.A. in Education, Political Science, Business, Sales, Marketing, Management, or related field, M.A. in Organizational Leadership, Education, or related field preferred
- Experience managing across a broad base of constituents at all levels, including senior organizational leadership and external constituencies
- Strong understanding of the Special Education landscape, or willingness to learn
- Experience using qualitative and quantitative data to build and present cases in order to secure desired outcomes
- Strong strategic thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills, flexible and able to pivot as necessary to support school and scholar priorities
- Skills to perform complex, action driven data analysis and fluency in MS Excel, and Google Workspace (Google Sheets, Google Docs, etc.)
- Able to independently and successfully manage projects with minimal oversight
- Excellent written communication, with experience drafting detail-oriented work such as memos, recommendations, reports
- A strong work ethic and ability to problem-solve independently
- Able to mentor and grow existing Sprint staff
- Open and able to implement feedback quickly
Compensation Range
Annual Salary: $90,000.00 - $100,000.00
