State Street Global Advisors (SSGA) is seeking a Head of Market Data to work collaboratively across SSGA business units and with partners across Procurement, Finance and Legal teams at State Street Bank and Trust Company (SSBT) enterprise, ensuring the effective management and administration of market data services. This role will report to the SSGA SVP, Head of North America Operations and will play a critical role in the daily management of all aspects of the Market Data procurement and ongoing management lifecycle. The role will provide an opportunity to work across the SSGA organization including all business, operations, technology, Global hubs (Poland, India, and China) to drive results, support strategic initiatives, improve processes, foster collaboration and alignment, and achieve more efficient market data operational performance and expense management.

The Head of Market Data is a key leader in enabling SSGA to execute on our priorities. The successful candidate will be highly resourceful, self-motivated and possess strong written and verbal communication, project management and analytical/financial skills. The ideal Head of Market Data will have a combination of focus and adaptability and display an eagerness to collaborate on a wide variety of tasks. The individual will also possess a high level of personal and professional integrity and sound judgment with the ability to work effectively with senior business leaders.
What you will be responsible for
- Provide ownership of SSGA's top Market Data vendors (e.g., Bloomberg, FactSet, etc.).
- Represent SSGA on all SSBT enterprise-wide discussions regarding market data vendors.
- Collaborate and partner with teams across the SSBT enterprise (e.g., Procurement, Third Party Risk Management, other parties leveraging the vendor) to ensure that SSGA receives the best rates and best level of service from the vendors.
- Establish and manage relationships with the SSGA business teams to develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the market data products and services used by GA and the various use cases for the data.
- Articulate the SSGA requirements for the vendor and the general importance of the vendor to the rest of SSBT.
- Proactively and strategically manage the commercials, budgeting and spend related to the market data vendors, in partnership with Finance.
- Strategically manage SSGA demand for market data by collaborating with key stakeholders across the SSGA business to document the pipeline, define priorities and streamline the scope of SSGA's market data needs.
- Implement Market Data usage controls and tollgates.
- Proactively manage SSGA's overall vendor costs to ensure we are investing wisely with the right vendors. Identify opportunities to consolidate spending or reduce and control ongoing costs.
- For market data services, this includes understanding how data flows across various systems and optimizing the end-to-end process.
- Collaborate with Data Governance team to implement requirements for Market Data domains.
These skills will help you succeed in this role:
- Demonstrated experience of successfully managing market data demand across business units and working with market data suppliers
- Experience establishing a vendor management program (e.g., developing governance and reporting structure, analysis of market data spend and usage)
- Provide leadership and oversight to all aspects of the Global Market Data Operating Model including onboarding, reporting standards, ad hoc/custom queries, monitoring/metrics/management reporting, stakeholder engagement, audit requests, service delivery partnerships, and outsourcing oversight
- Strong leader providing clear direction, motivation and organization to global team of 10+ to deliver on key organizational strategic objectives, achieve Key Results and support our business and company in achieving their goals
- Lead continuous development of team capabilities: drive improvement to the capabilities of the market data team - product/data domain expertise, technical skills, communication skills, business & data analysis
- Business acumen - ability to pre-empt questions and sense-check the facts and be able to display a general business knowledge across all SSGA business lines
- Demonstrated ability to effectively partner with all levels of management including support functions, as required to execute SSGA's strategic objectives

Education & Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in market data and vendor management, expense management, procurement, or a closely related business area
- A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in roles including strategy, leading global programs, and executing a portfolio of projects
- A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in managing, leading and developing high performing cross organizational teams
- Asset Management experience required
- Undergraduate Degree required
- Strong MS Office skills are preferred

Salary Range:
$170,000 - $267,500 Annual
The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
