The Software Asset Management (SAM) Manager is responsible for overseeing the organization's software assets to ensure compliance, cost efficiency, and effective utilization. This role involves managing software licensing, optimizing software usage, and mitigating risks related to non-compliance. The SAM Manager collaborates with IT Teams, procurement, and compliance teams to develop and enforce software asset management policies and processes.

- Define and maintain policies, processes, and controls for managing software assets across the organization.

Software Licensing and Compliance:
- Monitor software license usage to ensure compliance with vendor agreements and prevent over- or under-licensing.
- Manage software audits, including coordinating with vendors and internal stakeholders to provide necessary documentation.
- Partner with SW Product Owners to track and renew software licenses, subscriptions, and maintenance agreements to avoid interruptions in service.
Optimization and Cost Management:
- Partner with stakeholders to analyze software usage data to identify cost-saving opportunities, such as license optimization or consolidation.
- Partner with procurement and finance teams to negotiate favorable terms with software vendors.
- Provide insights and recommendations for future software purchasing decisions based on usage trends and organizational needs.
Tool and Data Management:
- Maintain software asset inventory using SAM tools (e.g. Flexera, Snow Software).
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of software asset data in the SAM database.
- Drive the integration of SAM tools with other enterprise systems (e.g., ITSM, CMDB).
Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Partner with IT, security, and compliance teams to align SAM practices with broader IT governance frameworks.
- Train and educate stakeholders on software usage policies, license agreements, and SAM processes.
- Act as the primary point of contact for software vendors and licensing partners.
Reporting and Metrics:
- Generate reports on software usage, compliance status, and cost savings to inform decision-making.
- Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) for the SAM program, such as compliance rates, license optimization metrics, and audit outcomes.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in IT Asset Management or Software Asset Management, with a focus on software licensing and compliance.
Certifications (Preferred):
- Certified Software Asset Manager (CSAM)
- ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) Foundation Certification
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of software licensing models (e.g., SaaS, perpetual, enterprise agreements).
- Proficiency with SAM tools (e.g., Flexera, ServiceNow, Snow Software).
- Experience with data analysis and reporting tools to derive actionable insights.
Soft Skills:
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and analytical skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
