Job Description

Charles River Development is rapidly growing it's Software-as-a- Service platform. We are looking to recruit a hands-on, well rounded database administrator for our growing Infrastructure Support team. This team is responsible for the design, administration and daily operation of critical systems used to support our Client's Production; Disaster Recovery and Test environments. The team also helps to develop new support services and architects our core infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the deployment, maintenance and monitoring of the databases in our extensive SaaS architecture including Client Productions, Disaster Recovery and Test environments.
  • Provide hands on support of large databases including but not limited to availability monitoring, security, general database maintenance, extract - transformation load, backup/recovery, documentation and configuration.
  • Perform capacity planning for critical database resources; plan system expansions and adjust architectures for future growth.
  • Configure secure database access, manage access permissions, perform database restores and execute fallovers as needed.
  • Work closely with Senior DBA team to develop, implement and maintain standard SaaS operating procedures to optimize performance, scalability and reliability.
  • Assist with the management of complex support relationships with key vendors including managed hosting providers.
  • Help to improve and document operational procedures so that non-database administrators can safely perform routine database maintenance.
  • Create and maintain scripts and documentation for all aspects of database administration including core design, implementation, data scrubbing, encryption, disaster recovery and general architecture summaries.
  • Become an expert in our Disaster Recovery procedures, including leading multi-team recovery efforts when necessary.
  • Establish, maintain and adhere to CRD technical standards, policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with business and software teams to create/streamline/automates support processes.
  • Follow incident response procedures and manager troubleshooting efforts as issues arise.
  • Participate in periodic weekend maintenance/on-call rotation.

Qualifications/Requirement:.

  • Proven operational experience on a database administration team supporting mission critical production systems.
  • Extensive experience with MS SQL Server database administration with SQL Server.
  • Extensive experience working with any core infrastructure or web technologies such as web servers, databases, storage systems, server operating systems or application servers.
  • Proficient with at least one common scripting language such as Powershell.
  • Knowledge of the impact of OS, hardware and storage has on database performance preferred.
  • Experience with multi-node database geo-clusters desirable.
  • Solid understanding of T-SQL including using it to write complex queries and procedures.
  • Experience with identifying and resolving database bottlenecks and performance issues (SQL optimisation).
  • Experience with monitoring tools like Solarwinds DPA or SQL Sentry.
  • Proven interest in staying up to date with the latest SQL Server related technologies.
  • Best practice experience for database performance, maintenance and security.
  • Familiarity with related Microsoft technologies - Active Directory, Group Policies, IIS, WSUS, Windows Failover Clustering, DFS, DNS, NTFS etc.
  • Experience with Azure or AWS advantageous.
  • High degree of technical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong sense of customer service, attention to detail and issue ownership.
  • Third level qualification/degree in technology discipline.
