Lead Data Scientist - Commerce Analytics (Parental Leave Cover, 13 months)

Handling over 1 billion transactions annually across more than 100 payment methods, our team leads in the global monitoring and reporting on payments performance. We deliver essential insights that inform optimisation strategies and facilitate decision-making, supporting the expansive Commerce Business team. In this role, your data science skills will have a direct impact on Spotify's global Commerce strategy and contribute to the success of all monetised products. This opportunity is a parental leave cover, 13 months. The role will begin onboarding in August 2024, two weeks ahead of the team member parental leave starting.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and develop a compact team, presently comprising one Data Scientist II, dedicated to payments analytics.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Spotify's diverse payments landscape and associated data sources to gain insights into payments performance and identify optimisation opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product, Product Insights and Business Analytics teams to understand and drive strategic data initiatives.
  • Enable a self-serve data environment in the Commerce Business team using data modelling and visualisation tools such as Looker, whilst supporting ad-hoc analysis requests where needed.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of the payments alerting system, ensuring that the Commerce Operations team are promptly informed of payments related incidents that require immediate attention.
  • Monitor key performance indicators to track and report on payment performance, keeping the Commerce team informed with data-driven research on optimisation initiatives and challenges.
  • While this is a management position, you will be part of a small team that requires a substantial amount of individual contributor work.

Who You Are

  • 5+ years experience in a data science role, preferably in at least one e-commerce or payments organisation.
  • A background in Computer Science, Analytics Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or another quantitative field.
  • Leadership and management experience, as well as strong project management skills.
  • Proficiency with Python or similar programming languages and associated data science packages.
  • Proficiency in SQL (we use Google BigQuery).Experience with dashboard visualisation tools such as Tableau, Looker, Google Data Studio or similar.
  • A strong collaborator with excellent communication skills, effective in working with cross-functional teams and managing stakeholders' expectations.
  • Intellectually curious, creative and diligent - you enjoy thinking about the business as much as the data!
