SUPERVISOR, MACHINING OPERATIONS

The Machine Shop Supervisor is responsible for all machining, quality control, and system conformance processes within the shop. This candidate will be tasked with ensuring all areas of production are meeting the Launch Hardware teams’ goals through direct action as well as empowerment of their team . Key components of this position will be reporting to Launch Hardware management, troubleshooting production issues, working with machining technicians, manufacturing engineers and quality engineers to identify and execute process improvements and automating repetitive manual tasks. Strong emotional intelligence that can drive change and hold teams accountable is a key for success in this role.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure all work orders are completed on time and to specification
  • Project estimation for incoming work
  • Responsible for leading and supervising machine shop employees
  • Supervise the production flow within the machine shop, ensuring safety and the efficiency of entire shop floor
  • Work with internal customers, manufacturing engineers, and quality teams to resolve nonconformance issues
  • Review work instructions with planners/schedulers to carry out and also recommend any changes to ensure machinists have accurate and complete instructions
  • Meet tight and moving production schedules
  • Support programming operations as needed to help increase shop efficiency
  • Monitor tooling costs, and work with the machining teams to provide overall departmental cost reductions
  • Enforce systems and corporate policies
  • Monitor labor hours and overtime, approve time cards, and assist in the implementation of time management and improvement plans
  • Develop, implement, and hold accountability for continual process improvement as well as team development

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and 1+ years of experience in a machining environment; OR 5+ years of experience working as a CNC machinist
  • 2+ years of leadership experience including leading teams or projects
  • 2+ years of experience with multi-axis CNC mills (up to 5 axis) and lathes

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Proficiency with Fanuc and Haas Controls
  • 1+ year(s) of experience programming MasterCam and use of G-Code
  • Experience troubleshooting manufacturing operations and machining processes
  • Experience converting labor intensive machining processes into lights out machining scenarios
  • Experience leading machinists/CNC programmers, manufacturing engineers and quality engineers on processes development and continuous improvements efforts
  • Experience developing teams within a machining cell to create a ratio of (1) machining tech to operate (2) or more machines simultaneously
  • Ability to read and interpret blue prints and engineering drawings
  • Well versed in GD&T and its inspection procedures and processes
  • Experience working with and developing research and development machine shop tracking metrics
  • Experience working with leadership teams to develop flexible production plans
  • Experience in evaluating teams, generating mid-term and annual reviews and presenting to lead persons and technicians
  • Experience procuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting MasterCam posts
  • Familiarity with additional machine controllers

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs. unassisted
  • Must be willing to travel as required by the business
  • Must be willing to work at elevated heights and in tight spaces
  • Must be willing to work long hours, nights and weekends with limited notice

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:

Supervisor: $105,000.00 - $135,000.00/per year                     

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
