SR. SIMULATION ENGINEER (NONDESTRUCTIVE EVALUATION)
We are looking for good people and driven, adaptable, resilient engineers with experience developing simulations and software to accelerate quality, speed, and efficiency of manufacturing processes at SpaceX.
Our team is building out the next generation of simulation and in-process monitoring tools for SpaceX as we develop the Starship and Starlink programs while scaling up the Falcon and Dragon programs. We have the unique opportunity to work across all programs at SpaceX and be impactful to them all. Our team consists of engineers developing best in class in process monitoring solutions for data collection and automated analysis. We use statistical analysis, automated defect recognition, and machine learning to support and expedite the company’s manufacturing rate and quality goals. We also develop reliable, scalable, and efficient numerical analysis solvers to support these processes via simulation.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Drive the improvement and adoption of custom multiphysics simulation software solutions
- Leverage your expertise in materials, processes, and manufacturing to deliver best in class simulation solutions
- Link the results of those simulations to as built parts and results from a variety of NDE methods and to machine learning models
- Design and deliver improved usability for simulation tools
- Identify opportunities for process improvements in our manufacturing processes
- Work closely with simulation and machine learning experts to link model outputs to process inputs
- Deep dive into your users’ problems to find and create efficient solutions
- Work closely with our production engineers and technicians to provide the best first principles solution to their needs
- Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies
- Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency)
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or STEM discipline and 5+ years of software development experience; OR 7+ years of professional experience with simulation software for casting/other manufacturing processes in lieu of a degree
- Experience in full stack development, software engineering, data engineering, or data science
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Expertise in manufacturing via casting
- Good understanding of metallurgy and how it relates to final parts
- Experience developing with OpenFOAM or similar
- Knowledge of the additive manufacturing process
- Programming experience in Python, C++, or similar object-oriented language
- Front-end experience in React or similar JavaScript UI frameworks
- Good understanding of statistics, machine learning algorithms and frameworks
- Experience with Linux applications and server components
- Computer Vision experience in libraries such as OpenCV
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary
- Ability to travel to other SpaceX sites as needed
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
Pay Range:
Simulation Engineer/Senior: $160,000.00 - $220,000.00/per year
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
