LEAD INSTRUMENTATION TECHNICIAN (TOWER AND LAUNCH MOUNT)

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead and provide daily support to the Tower and Launch mount controls Instrumentation team
• Schedule work, assign work, and assess completed work
• Ensure employees have the tools and materials they need to carry out their duties
• Lead instrumentation technicians during Tower and Launch Mount controls projects from design review to activation

• Lead instrumentation technicians during pad refurbishments and modification periods
• Install and terminate wiring to pad instrumentation and data acquisition systems
• Install connectors, connector pins, terminals, and lugs
• Perform continuity checks, and locate/correct wiring errors using measuring instruments such as ohmmeters and voltage calibrators
• Assemble and install harnesses under engineering direction
• Perform work in support of fellow electronic technicians and engineering employees using shop assembly equipment and hand tools
• Collaborate with design engineers to troubleshoot failures and issues derived from test data
• Lead technicians in the field to accomplish required tasks on a daily basis
• Ensure safety and quality inspection principles and procedures are followed in all tasks
• Establish and lead a robust contractor training program ensuring all external personnel are adequately trained
• Create comprehensive work packets with detailed instructions including, conduit runs, wire type/sizing, channel allocation, and BOM’s
• Work with engineering to develop and implement detailed project plans released well before execution phases
• Coordinate timelines for 1-5 concurrent construction projects to ensure on-time delivery
• Collaborate with procurement to ensure timely availability of all necessary materials                               

• Provide constructive feedback to peers and other teams for process improvements

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or equivalency certificate
• 3+ years of experience as a controls or instrumentation technician

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
• 3+ years of leadership experience
• 2+ years of experience managing fabrication projects as the main point of contact/ technician
• Experience working on SpaceX Tower and Launch mount data and controls systems
• Experience working effectively in a team environment under stress
• Knowledge of safety procedures and techniques
• Experience operating successfully in a remote location with a limited team and resources
• Experience having a strong propensity for hands-on work and attention to detail
• Experience rapidly changing roles/responsibilities while working in a high-paced, challenging work environment
• Experience relaying data (verbal and written) between employees and customers
• Experience working with design engineers to develop and document set up and procedures
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, and off-shifts as needed
• Ability to occasionally work first shifts during major pad refurbishment or build periods where more people are required to meet an objective
• Ability to perform work in extreme outdoor environments: winter winds, heat, cold, rain, and humidity
• General physical fitness is required for some work areas
• Ability to lift up to 35 lbs. unassisted and climb at least 150 feet
• Ability to pass Air Force background checks for Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg                                       

• Ability work at 50+ foot heights for extended periods of time

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:                   
Lead Instrumentation Technician/Level 3: $31.00/hour + $2.00/hour lead differential        
Lead Instrumentation Technician/Level 4: $36.00/hour + $2.00/hour lead differential        
Lead Instrumentation Technician/Level 5: $41.00 - $55.00/hour + $2.00/hour lead differential

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience. Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
