IT SYSTEMS ENGINEER, LAUNCH

SpaceX is looking for a highly skilled and knowledgeable IT Systems Engineer to iterate and improve its multi-site mission critical launch IT infrastructure. This role will be pivotal to the enablement of safe, reliable and sustained launch cadence, directly supporting our goals of making humanity a multiplanetary species. Candidate must be comfortable supporting and designing mission-critical infrastructure with grit, effective simplicity and customer-focused tenacity.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Optimize and consolidate existing automation scripts and tooling used to simultaneously support multiple classes of launch vehicles.
  • Provide advanced support for Linux and Windows administration and troubleshooting.
  • Increase mission critical IT infrastructure maturity with focus on alignment with NIST cybersecurity frameworks. 
  • Integrate industry-standard DevOps tooling and processes with existing procedures to streamline launch support infrastructure deployment and refresh.
  • Collaborate with software and controls teams to integrate IT infrastructure build and configuration processes into standardized systems deployment and verification pipelines.
  • Provide real-time IT support during launch and test operations, troubleshooting networking, hardware, and software issues in potentially high stress, time sensitive situations.
  • Enhance network monitoring capabilities by identifying operational blind-spots, solving them with custom scripting, filtering, and efficient dashboards.
  • Research and implement new virtualization, storage, and networking technologies in development environments for potential adoption.
  • Maintain and enhance detailed IT system CMDBs, procedures, and contingency plans. 
  • Support rapid infrastructure expansion, providing design guidance, topology diagrams, and project coordination.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, math, physics, information systems, or other engineering discipline of and 3+ years of systems engineering experience; OR 5+ years of systems engineering experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience with virtualization or containerization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix, Docker, or Openshift).
  • Experience with Active Directory and multi-platform authentication/identification environments.
  • Working knowledge of GitOps concepts, tools, and processes.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with Linux and Windows server administration. 
  • Excellent experience with custom scripting (Bash/Powershell/Python) and automation frameworks (Terraform, Ansible, Puppet).
  • Exposure to real-time systems and industrial telemetry networks. 
  • Experience with Atlassian Tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket.
  • Expertise in creating repeatable, reliable, scalable systems architectures, with high availability, fault tolerance, and performance tuning.
  • Experience implementing layer 3 network topologies.
  • Experience working with Firewall administration.
  • Experience working within compliance frameworks (NIST, ISO or similar).

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:    
    
Pay Range:    
IT Systems Engineer: $120,000.00 - $160,000.00/per year   

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
