In this job, you'll lead commercial contract negotiations, contract interpretation and management, and provide general advice and counsel to SCE's Energy Procurement and Management and Procurement organizations, as well as other organizational units at SCE, including Information Technology and Cybersecurity, Transmission and Distribution, and Customer Service. The successful candidate will handle or assist in a wide range of procurement and other contract negotiations for the company and will report to a Director/Managing Attorney.
You must be able to work independently, be attentive to detail, identify legal and business risks, draft contracts quickly and clearly, and confidently negotiate with contract parties. We seek a candidate who has the ability to simultaneously manage a large variety of assignments, work quickly and effectively under pressure, and prioritize activities. Responsibilities
- Conducts complex legal analysis to craft strategies and interpretations which anticipate the outcome of important and uncertain legal and factual issues, ensuring legal compliance
- Leads the development and implementation of legal strategies and SCE's position on changes in laws and regulations
- Collaborates with the most senior levels of SCE and represents the company at significant public, business and legal gatherings, interacting with government officials, industry bodies and clients, as required
- Develops SCE's legal strategy to select, retain, manage and evaluate effective outside counsel
- Guides corporate policy on regulation development, business processes, safety, ethics and compliance, operational efficiency, future business models, with business acumen, creativity, and legal expertise
- Leads the provision of legal advice on aspects of corporate development and strategic initiatives while driving cross-functional alignment
- Regulatory Sr Attorney conducts all aspects of regulatory litigation, which includes leading legal strategy and preparing all pleadings
- Regulatory Sr Attorney leads SCE regarding regulatory and enforcement agencies, including the California Public Utilities Commission and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on complex legal matters, including the drafting and preparing of regulatory filings, testimonies and reports and advocating company positions at hearings
- Transactional Sr Attorney oversees the execution, structuring, drafting, reviewing and negotiation of complex agreements, including identifying legal and business risks and recommending solutions
- Litigation Sr Attorney oversees the organization's docket of litigation and investigation matters, ensuring a sound strategy for engaging with outside counsel and internal legal teams
- A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity
Minimum Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Eight or more years of experience practicing law. Your combined experience can be at a law firm, corporate in-house setting, or government authority.
- Current member in good standing of the State Bar of California or willingness and ability to become accredited as such.
Preferred Qualifications
- License to practice law in California.
- Strong academic credentials.
- Experience with contract analysis, drafting and negotiation, preferably with some experience with renewable power purchase agreements, energy storage agreements, project finance transactions and energy/finance industry master agreements (e.g., EEIs, NAESBs and ISDAs).
- Experience interacting with non-lawyer, business and technical clients.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team including the ability to promote positive cooperation within the legal team, with other Company personnel, and with outside counsel.
Additional Information
- This position's work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.\u202f Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California.\u202f Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
