Become a PI System Senior Advisor (Architect) at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you'll be responsible for providing hands-on, technical leadership within the Power Systems Controls (PSC) group for the PI System (historian). This role should be a recognized expert in solving business problems with the PI System and related analytical technologies. This position works with other team members and business clients to solve business problems through innovative solutions as we modernize the electrical grid through smart grid technologies.
This role ensures that the PI System is designed and maintained in a way to ensure reliability, performance, integration and scalability of the platform. This includes evaluating new data sources for history management, analytics tools to gain insight from results analyses toward solving business problems and specifying and implementing integration patterns to operationalize results to other systems (e.g. SAP, EMS, DERMS, etc.). This role also ensures that the PI System is maintained at optimized component versions and evaluates the system and vendor changes to ensure cyber security is maintained. In addition, this role develops technology roadmaps for the PI System platform and its integration with other systems, while planning for its future.

The PI System advisor works collaboratively with other technology architects, corporate business teams and other technical contributors or project sponsors. The advisor also leads the design and support of PI System compliance within our regulated NERC CIP environment. The PI System advisor will collect requirements, prepare designs and implement solutions to the business using the PI System and related analytics technologies using modern, agile techniques for development. These solutions may include tailoring of the PI System analytics, development of custom or extensions to the PI System using modern technology languages, frameworks and patterns.
The PI System Senior Advisor should be an experienced engineer who supports the historian's architecture, maintenance and enhancements. This position will support the PI System maintenance team and provide technical leadership and guidance for troubling or recurring maintenance issues when they arise.

Responsibilities
- Oversees EMS related activities such as updating databases, displays, operation and maintenance of systems and sub-systems and interfaces with internal and external systems
- Optimizes algorithms, prediction models and an interface with microgrid equipment
- Troubleshoots and resolves complex systems issues to resolution independently, collaboratively with the team, and with vendor engagement
- Collaborates directly with IT maintaining, improving, and implementing communications, and hardware and software infrastructure
- Interprets and implements various supervisory control and data acquisition protocol communications on remote devices and control centers
- Configures and modifies EMS databases and ensures that all telemetry and controls are available and accurate
- Performs complex technical analysis to define customer requirements, identify risks and improve existing solutions
- Maintains and supports system interfacing historical data systems
- Understands and implements various ISO (Independent System Operator) telemetry requirements to support various energy management needs of the customers and maintains grid operator reliability and compliance
- Writes and reviews documentation to describe configuration processes, logic, and test plans. Writes and reviews manuals for users

Minimum Qualifications
- Ten or more years of experience architecting or designing technology solutions for mission critical systems.
- Experience with Transmission and Distribution networks, SCADA and control systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with the Electrical Utility industry and Operational Technology (OT) systems such as EMS, ADMS, DERMS, OMS, AMI and other related systems such as GIS and CMMS (e.g. SAP PM)
- Experience working in a regulated utility and familiar with CIP standards and practices.
- Experience with PI System Monitoring or other AF example kits and the use of PI IT interfaces such as PerfMon, SysMon, etc.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline
- Working knowledge of common control systems, industry protocols (DNP3, Modbus, IEEE C37.118, etc.) and interfacing to Historians and IT Applications.
- Experience with the development of PI Vision custom symbols and extensions.
- Experience with the development of custom applications on top of the PI System, such as web frameworks for custom user experiences and application needs.
- Experience with cloud-based services and platforms such as Azure, AWS
- Technical/operational level understanding of VMware and/or Nutanix AHV and virtualization requirements and monitoring.
- Significant experience designing, supporting, administering, and implementing business solutions with the Aveva / OSIsoft PI System.
- Significant experience with PI System interfaces and connector technologies
- Significant experience with PI System's Asset Framework (PI AF) features and capabilities, especially Templates, Units Of Measure (UOM), Analytics, string functions (regular expressions) and Element structures.
- Experience with development of PI Vision dashboards.
- Experience with coding against the AF SDK for PI AF structure maintenance and data manipulation.
- Programming and analytics skills: C#, .Net, Visual Studio, SSIS, API/Adapter calls, SQL, Microsoft PowerBI, etc.
- Experience with PI Web API and ReST-based API methods. Familiar with Agile and DevOps methodology and practices.
- Experience designing and implementing Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions.
- Strong skills in identifying and implementing process improvements and persuading others.
- Self-motivated, excellent communication skills, and enjoy working with people.
- Strong communication skills - verbally and written - with ability to communicate with all levels, including SMEs and Senior Management
- Ability to be productive and produce quality results in a dynamic work environment.
Additional Information
- This position's work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.\u202f Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California.\u202f Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
