Become an Engineering Manager - Power Systems Applications at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you'll oversee a team of technical SMEs responsible for the ongoing operations and maintenance of Power System Applications within the Energy Management System (EMS), as well as the EMS Refresh Project. These applications are crucial for ensuring the safety and efficiency of grid operations. Your role will involve managing the team's efforts to maintain and enhance these applications, ensuring they operate reliably and effectively to support critical grid functions.

Key Focus of Role

  • Daily Operations & Maintenance: Leading daily operations and maintenance activities of Power System Applications e.g., State Estimator & RTCA within the Energy Management System (EMS). This role ensures that these applications remain highly available and accurate, providing essential support to the Grid Control Center (GCC) and other users. The manager oversees the smooth functioning of these applications, addressing any issues promptly to maintain optimal performance and reliability.
  • Project Leadership: Leads the team on supporting EMS Refresh Project.
  • Application Enhancements: Guides the team in the ongoing enhancement of Power System Applications. This involves efforts to minimize application downtime, enhance data accuracy, expand functionalities, and improve user experiences. The manager fosters a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring that the applications evolve to meet the growing needs of users and maintain high performance standards.
  • Incident Tracking & Resolution: Leading the team in monitoring and resolving incidents, collaborating closely with our Network Operations Center (NOC) to handle incidents and provide technical support. This role involves ensuring that all incidents are tracked efficiently and resolved promptly, maintaining seamless operations and minimizing disruptions. The manager works in tandem with the NOC to address technical issues, implement solutions, and enhance overall system reliability.
  • Team Leadership: Leads the team on collaborating with our T&D groups on ensuring accurate electrical model and application improvements.
  • Grid Modernization: Collaborate with other groups in modernizing Grid Operations to support Pathway 2045 goals.

Responsibilities

  • Leads a select set of engineering and business initiatives to develop grid strategies, determine how the grid is planned, designed, operated, and maintained to operationalize company's strategy
  • Develops and maintains a project portfolio management system to prioritize projects, allocate resources, and monitor performance
  • Evaluates new technologies and methodologies to enhance project efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability, designing and implementing improvement projects and new systems to support site initiatives and improve operational efficiency
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with external partners, vendors, and contractors to support project delivery and innovation
  • Coaches engineering teams on professional development opportunities to enhance their skills and knowledge
  • Leads the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategy, technology and safety program to ensure company advancement toward future vision and the well-being of employees and contractors involved in engineering projects
  • Manages the engineering team that provides emergent and routine trouble-shooting support for plant technical needs. Manages various contract engineers and works with those individuals to ensure consistency and quality in design, delivery milestone dates, and cost
  • Leads the design and implementation of new equipment and cost-effective equipment modifications to help improve safety, reliability, and throughput
  • Develops goals for engineering team and assigns projects/roles to employees that translate Sr. Manager levels goals into actionable tasks
  • A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five or more years of combined experience performing or supervising engineering work in operations, production, construction or maintenance environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technical major.
  • Two or more years of experience leading or supervising a Grid Management System team.
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of Power System Applications for Realtime Operations.
  • Experience with application development processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with team members, stakeholders, and other departments.

Additional Information

  • This position's work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.\u202f Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California.\u202f Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.

  • The primary work location for this position is Alhambra, CA.. However, the successful candidate may also be asked to work for an extended amount of time at other SCE locations.
  • Position will require up to 2 0 % traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.
  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
  • This position has an option for a 9/80 Alternate Work Schedule or 40hrs/5 days a week.
  • Relocation does not apply to this position.
