THE ROLE
As Senior IT Engineer at Sotheby’s, you will act as the lead onsite IT technician in our Paris offices while collaborating with a team of contracted engineers from our managed service provider. As a hands-on engineer as well as a lead for improvement projects, the role will require someone with the technical acumen to assist with a broad scope of technical challenges, and the willingness to address a range of IT needs both simple and complex.
Through an IC role, applicants should be well-suited to work autonomously while setting standards for other engineers and communicating regular updates to departmental leadership. This will be Paris’ first directly-employed IT engineer role, and as such, successful candidates should be adept at creative problem solving and have experience with managed service or staff augmentation team structures.
RESPONSIBLITIES
- Provide day-to-day technical support to our colleagues (deployment and break/fix items) including the support of PCs, Macs, phones, printers, basic network hardware, and audiovisual equipment
- Image, deploy and manage PC, Mac, and iOS devices using Microsoft InTune
- Administer FreshService, our ITSM/ticketing tool, and other enterprise systems and SaaS solutions
- Assist in identifying and recommending new technology solutions while influencing and working with global standards
- Work directly on a team with contracted engineers while identifying areas for technical and process improvements
- Pair with Network Engineers on migration to SD-WAN and Cisco Meraki
- Use effective problem-solving techniques, to support and restore normal service due to any production problems and to minimize the impact to the department or business
- Provide occasional “white glove” service for Onboarding and Offboarding while working with IT and HR leadership to improve the related processes
- Assist in the tracking of inventory and selecting new hardware for procurement
- Lead the technical production of our public-facing live-streamed auctions with guidance from our Global Auction Production Manager
- Provide technical support for those sales which includes telephony, networked printers, and the use of proprietary systems to stream sales video
- Travel regionally to support Sotheby’s sales and to assist with hardware upgrades and urgent requests as needed.
- Maintain high standards of ethics and integrity and adheres to legal, compliance and information security requirements.
- Occasional travel to our satellite office, gallery, and warehouse locations in the Paris area
IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES
- Must be a native French speaker and fluent in English to support our local staff and international team, respectively
- 4+ years experience of end user support in a global IT environment with at least 2 years managing technical projects.
- Experience working in a startup or other quickly-evolving environment where you have developed innovative solutions while also addressing simpler functional IT needs
- Proven ability to work alongside contractors and consultants - this will be the first IC IT engineering role in Paris employed directly by Sotheby's
- Experience in IT project planning and oversight including allocation of resources and budget
- Basic understanding of network protocols and architectures
- Working knowledge of Active Directory administration
- Strong communication skills with a paired ability to work autonomously
- Takes personal responsibility to make decisions and has a bias for action within established corporate and global IT guidelines
- Someone who challenges the status quo, proposes new ideas and implements solution and acts as a willing change agent
- Experience with the technical production of live-streamed events using a networked audiovisual technologies
- Skilled in creating simple internal process documentation and training materials
- Flexibility to adjust schedule to accommodate night and weekend sales
