THE ROLE

This is a global and cross-functional role requiring superior analytic abilities and group management. You will liaise directly with senior business getters, senior management, and clients on major transactions. You will also analyze, plan, and implement new strategy projects to grow Sotheby’s along its existing and new business lines.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Financial
    • Develop deal structures and economics for complicated and high-value transactions to serve the needs of clients, counterparties, and Sotheby’s, both at auction and privately.
    • Serve as a key point of contact for all financial deals working directly with the Chief Financial Officer, Chief Commercial Officer, and Specialist Departments.
    • Track relevant outstanding and past transaction-related arrangements with clients globally in connection with Specialists, Business Directors, Legal, Finance, and Senior Management.
    • Adeptly guide and interface with business managers / directors, specialists, and clients on high volume, fast-paced transactions to promote thoughtful deal structuring and profitability.
    • Prepare and maintain materials to be presented to Senior Management and Board of Directors as updates on key initiatives.
  • Other projects
    • Perform deep-dive analyses into historical actuals against forecasts and plan.
    • Lead cross-functional strategic projects and collaborate with key stakeholders to streamline processes, further move into new business channels, and expand the digital landscape.
    • Perform ad-hoc analyses and various other reporting for Senior Management and Board of Directors.

IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

  • Bachelor degree and high prior academic standing.
  • Independent thinker who is capable of recognizing areas in need of improvement and develop short and long-term action plans to implement change.
  • 3-7 total years of experience.  Preferably with 2-3 years of experience in private equity, investing, investment banking, corporate finance, financial planning & analysis, consulting and/or related role.
  • Advanced MS Powerpoint and MS Excel skills are mandatory for this role, must be an MS Excel power user with advanced spreadsheet management/financial model building skills and ability to easily manipulate large volumes of data, build and use advanced macros/pivot tables/v- and h-lookups, etc.
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills, ability to present a cohesive story or solution.
  • Must deal effectively with ambiguities, differing personalities, and be able to manage multiple projects through completion, often under tight deadlines. Flawless attention to detail and ability to consistently generate a high-quality work product.
  • Motivated, creative and conscientious self-starter who appreciates challenges and takes ownership to improve the status quo.
  • Prior art experience not required, but must exhibit an interest in the business and seek opportunities to initiate (without being instructed) new analysis or projects.
  • Must be focused on continuous improvement with an ability to add value and efficiencies across all current practices

The proposed base salary for this position ranges from $80,000-$105,000. In addition to base salary successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus, as well as a competitive benefits package. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained.
