Safety Development Specialist

Minneapolis, MN

The Safety Development Specialist will support the Safety and Transportation Department by conducting training in the areas of commercial driver training (including hazardous material awareness), flatbeds, Moffett's, box trucks, and stake trucks), forklift safety training, and additional safety training programs applicable to the distribution industry. Training will utilize a variety of instructional techniques or formats for large groups and individual associates. This role will also be responsible for developing and sharing ongoing best practices in transportation and powered industrial truck programs and will be the subject matter expert in these areas of training with a strong focus on safe operations of a commercial vehicle and compliance of all Federal Motor Carrier and Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop, coordinate and conduct safety and training programs for Viking Electric drivers in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier and Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations. This includes classroom activities, ride along, and on the road instruction activities that enhance the learning experience. Coach managers and drivers to ensure safe operation of vehicles.
  • Support Viking Electric's Drive Cam program by reviewing and communicating potential high-risk events and/or positive safe driving actions.
  • Develop, coordinate and conduct safety training for powered industrial truck operators in accordance with OSHA regulations.
  • Develop, coordinate and provide safety training in other areas, including hazardous material awareness and fall protection awareness.
  • Ensure associates follow safety protocols related to accidents, incidents, injury reporting and follow up. Assist with auto insurance claim processing/claims management.

Position Requirements:

  • Must be at least 25 years of age.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOT Medical Card.
  • 5 years of commercial driving industry experience.
  • Certified to conduct safe driver training course through accredited program or willing to obtain.
  • 3 years of experience in training/instructing others is preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Class A or B Commercial Driver's License.
  • Flexibility for last-minute travel as needed.
  • Availability to travel up to 25% of the time.
