Soho Farmhouse...

Surrounded by 100 acres of Oxfordshire countryside, Soho Farmhouse is a destination for food and drink, wellness and outdoor activities. Two hours’ drive or a short train from London, we have 114 bedrooms, including cabins, huts and farmhouse bedrooms to stay in, a state-of-the-art gym, Cowshed Spa, an indoor and outdoor pool and cinema. We have multiple food and beverage outlets on site, The Main Barn is the central hub, serving the club menu all day. On the mezzanine, Comfy Farm has sofas and an open fire place, while Fancy Farm is a more formal setting for lunch or dinner. There is also Pen Yen for Japanese izakaya-style dishes from the robata grill, bind and sashimi, and Blake’s Kitchen for fresh bread, sausage rolls and cinnamon buns. Finally, there is The Little Bell, a local favourite, for nose-to-tail cooking and natural wine.

The Role… 

We are seeking an experienced Landscape Assistant to join our team at Soho Farmhouse (OX7 4JS).  You will required to work as part of a team maintaining and developing the estate. Duties include all aspects of Horticulture, and landscaping, as well as arboriculture and livestock management. You should have experience within the horticulture industry, be hardworking, organised and committed to maintaining the grounds to the highest possible standard, have a passion for nature and wildlife.

The site consists of fine lawns, extensive wildflower meadows, an orchard, herbaceous and shrub borders, mature trees, native hedgerows, lakes, streams, raised beds and ornamental pots.

Duties include:

  • Maintain and develop all landscaped areas to an excellent standard
  • Research into plantings and horticultural techniques to develop the growing estate 
  • Perform gardening duties such as planting, pruning, lawn mowing, wildflower maintenance, hedge cutting, weed control and mulching, irrigating planted areas, leaf collection etc 
  • Completing turfing and seeding works
  • Have experience of operating machinery 
  • Maintain tools, machinery and equipment 
  • Assist the production garden with growing fruit and vegetable produce
  • Assisting in the installation and upkeep of various types of fences and other hard landscaping tasks around the site
  • Undertake any other duties designated by your manager to ensure the smooth running of all operational aspects of the landscape team

What we are looking for – Landscape Assistant

  • A minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a landscape assistant or similar within a similar high-end environment.
  • Horticultural qualification level 3 or above is advantageous but not a necessity 
  • Knowledge of horticulture, landscaping principles, arboriculture, and sustainable practices.
  • PA1 & PA6 spraying certificates (desirable).
  • Chainsaw certificates (desirable).
  • Experience with all types of horticultural machinery.
  • Understand current health and safety legislation.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions
  • Team player who communicates well with all colleagues
  • Punctual, reliable and trustworthy
  • Sense of urgency
  • Yes, yes, yes mentality
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment

Expected working hours for a Landscape Assistant:

  • Varying shift times across the seven days, to include working evenings, weekends, opens & closes 
  • Average hours 45 hours per week
