The role…

Based in Manhattan, the Corporate Controller is a key member of the Americas financial leadership team and will manage all accounting, reporting, receivables, payables and payroll functions, overseeing a team of 30+.   

The Corporate Controller provides effective leadership over financial reporting, end-to-end business processes and internal controls. This includes developing a high-performing team to deliver results related to accurate reporting and balance sheet governance.

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced dynamic environment and must have extensive experience managing a large team through growth, finance transformation efforts and a strong ability to lead through change.

Main Duties

  • Lead a best-in-class accounting and financial reporting function, developing a team of leaders on a path to mastering exemplary problem-solving skills, effective cross functional partnering and continued development of strong business, operations and finance acumen.
  • Oversee goal setting and team development, with clear and measurable results.
  • Oversee finance transformation related to Controllership activities, including process changes, integrations, automation and standardization of accounting processes.
  • Oversee effectiveness of monthly close activities, including supervision of team leaders, ensure complete and accurate financial reporting, and timely closing of the books and records for multiple entities (60+).
  • Oversee completion and review of monthly consolidated results, including reporting packages supporting commercial review process, and quarterly / annual reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate and oversee annual audit activities with external auditors, including statutory and non-statutory requirements. Ensure timely delivery of all audit requirements.
  • Timely delivery of third-party reporting in connection with lease and loan agreement requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with the UK Group Finance teams and comply with all group reporting requirements.
  • Ownership over internal controls and remediation of any deficiencies, in addition to working effectively with cross-functional partners to design and implement effective controls.
  • Partner with group and local tax teams to ensure timely filing of tax obligations.
  • Provide accounting guidance and preparation of technical memos for accounting related business activities.
  • Effectively partner with the FP&A, Treasury and Procurement teams on daily activities, technology projects and process improvement initiatives.
  • Build and maintain business relationships with appropriate levels of management, communicating important issues, and/or opportunities that may impact operations.

Required Skills/Qualifications

  • Experience- CPA required; must possess advanced accounting management capabilities gained through 15+ years of hands-on experience with significant public accounting tenure. The ideal candidate would have started a career in a Big 4 public accounting firm and moved into an industry role, including at least 8+ years of people management. The successful candidate will have unquestionable integrity and the highest ethical standards.
  • Industry- The ideal candidate would have experience in the hospitality, retail and/or CPG industries. In addition, extensive experience working in a multi-location or multi-business unit structure, with ability to manage reporting on all entities in the Americas.
  • Technical Skills- Strong technical and academic background in accounting is required. Comprehensive understanding of US GAAP reporting and other requirements of regulations and statutes such as Sarbanes-Oxley.  Knowledge of UK GAAP is a plus.  In addition, notable experience with SOX audits and control remediation.
  • Systems- Advanced knowledge of ERP functionality, best-in-class business processes across all cycles and prior experience with implementation of new ERP and related systems.
  • Software Skills- Expert proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), including advanced excel modeling/query skills a must.
  • Team- Strong change management skills, with ability to lead the team through multiple steps of process improvement and new ways of working, specifically moving from a significant level of manual processes and reporting to automation.
  • High energy business partner with the ability to work collaboratively across finance, support and operational teams.
  • Strong team building skills with the ability to motivate and develop others, resolve conflict, and lead a diverse team in various disciplines.
  • Ability to handle multiple critical deliverables concurrently while having the resilience to strategically pivot in response to a continuously changing, dynamic business environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to seize, grasp, turn and hold objects with hands.
  • Must be able to work on your feet for at least 8 hours.
  • Fast paced movements are required to go from one part of the club to others.
  • Must be able to move, pull, carry, or lift at least 40 pounds.
  • Occasionally kneel, bend, crouch and climb as required.

In accordance with New York law, the salary range for this role if filled within New York is listed below. The range for the position in other geographies may vary based on market differences. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
