Sodexo is seeking an experienced Food Operations Manager 2 for the beautiful campus of University of Vermont, located in Burlington, VT. The Food Operations Manager 2 Provides leadership and supervision for the on-site food service exempt and non-exempt level staff in the delivery of our contractual agreement with the client. Provides supervision for food services at account/unit to ensure client satisfaction and retention for the company. Implements business practices in order to uphold company mission, values and commitments made in the Sodexo client contractual agreement.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Tracking

  • Collaborate with Vermont First Accounts and Vermont First Fellow to compile, analyze and distribute yearly metrics (statewide and account-level)
  • Use data to conduct targeted product shift and food system research (i.e. less meat better meat, cage-free in-shell eggs, fluid milk)
  • Support migration from excel-based system to PowerBi

Strategic Sourcing

  • Monitor and troubleshoot current local product commitments, ensuring that standing orders with suppliers are in place and anticipating any logistical items that need to be addressed
  • Ensure commitments are easily accessible for chefs and operations managers on Teams
  • Ensure spring 2025 commitments are in place before the start of the spring semester
  • Create Harvest of the Month 2024-2025 calendar by end of December 2024
  • Identify potential growth areas for local purchasing
  • Support account level purchasing goals (i.e. UVM's 25% local by 2030)

Marketing

  • Work closely with Field and Campus Marketing Coordinators, UVM Sustainability Managers, and student interns to create and distribute marketing materials, social media posts, schedule and implement tablings/events, and continue developing local producer video highlights
  • Continue to build and implement Vermont First Communications Plan in collaboration with VT First Coordinator

Operations Engagement:

  • Present updates on monthly chef and manager calls
  • 1:1 meetings with campus chefs/managers, at least 1x per semester, to revisit purchasing commitments, marketing and events needs
  • Student group engagement as requested by campus dining teams

Governance

  • Oversees Vermont First's two key governance groups: Vermont First Advisory Board and Vermont First Executive Committee. Work includes: manage membership, schedule/organize/facilitate quarterly meetings, oversee committee-level work (DEI Committee, Potential Local, Local Purchasing Team, Communications Committee)

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Regional and NORAM Program Development

  • Support state program leads in other states to develop the state program business case, improve tracking system, and build better supply chain processes with Supply Management

Academic Partnerships

  • Support UVM Sustainability Manager with academic partnership opportunities

Membership

  • Farm to Plate Network member
  • Ensure accounts who qualify are Vermont Fresh Network members
  • Sponsorship coordination: VT Grass Farmers Association, Farm to Plate, VT Fresh Network
  • Maine Course Leadership Committee member

Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Education Requirement - Associate's Degree or equivalent experience
Basic Management Experience - 2 years
Basic Functional Experience - 2 years work experience in food or culinary services including restaurants, fast food, vending, catering services, institutional services, mall food courts, etc.
