About SIRUM

SIRUM is reimagining the future of US healthcare by connecting people with surplus medications at an affordable cost.  Our goal is to leverage the ~$11B of surplus that goes to waste every year to improve health equity for the 50M adults in the US who can’t afford their prescriptions. Families’ health comes first and everyone deserves the medications they need to stay healthy. We deliver on this promise by ensuring medicine prices are low, stable, and transparent!

SIRUM is a fast-growing, non-profit, for-impact startup at the intersection of health tech + social enterprise. Founded at Stanford University and backed by Y Combinator, our platform moves~$1M worth of medications every week, sourced from hundreds of medicine donors across dozens of states. Join us in building a national solution to the drug pricing epidemic that has been featured on The TED Mainstage, The New York Times, and Forbes.

About the Role

As a fellow at SIRUM, you’ll spend one year working directly with leadership and play a critical role in our fast-growing social enterprise. This unique post-grad opportunity offers exposure to all aspects of the organization—impact, operations, policy, marketing, and development—while driving initiatives that intersect with health technology, community health, and government. From building partnerships and managing special projects to expanding our digital presence, you’ll analyze, strategize, and project manage to make a meaningful impact nationwide.

In this role, you will be responsible for…

  • Shaping and tracking new drug donation policies: Analyze and influence policy development by staying up-to-date on legislative changes, tracking new drug donation laws, and identifying opportunities for impactful advocacy.
  • Understanding and influencing state legislation and regulations: Gain a deep understanding of the legislative and regulatory processes, collaborating with representatives, legislative staff, and state agencies to advance SIRUM’s mission.
  • Leading high-visibility special projects: Take ownership of strategic initiatives, such as launching new donation programs or conducting research on specialty medications. Manage projects end-to-end, from planning and execution to evaluation, ensuring measurable impact.
  • Building and managing relationships: Collaborate with external stakeholders, including charitable pharmacy and clinic partners, to strengthen existing partnerships and establish new ones that support medicine redistribution.
  • Conducting analysis and driving efficiencies: Evaluate program costs and inefficiencies, identify areas for improvement, and lead follow-up projects to optimize operations and reduce waste.
  • Executing research and exploration initiatives: Lead research into new areas such as oncology, immunosuppressants, or other specialty medications, laying the groundwork for future program expansion.

We’re excited about you because…

  • You’re mission-driven: You look forward to using your skills to help individuals and families get the medicine they need.
  • You’re a detail-oriented problem solver: You enjoy digging into the complexity and nuances of problems to find a solution.
  • You’re great on the phone (and love it): You’re excited to spend 2-3 hours/day on calls, whether troubleshooting tech issues with current donors, pitching the program to new facilities, or providing virtual training to nursing teams.
  • You’re a self-starter with a sharp eye for detail: You know how to organize yourself and others, keeping projects on track while staying focused on the finer points.
  • You’re resourceful and innovative: You find ways to streamline your work but aren’t afraid to roll up your sleeves to get the job done.
  • A bachelor's (undergraduate) degree is required.
