How the RF Validation Team Works

The IoT products produced by Silicon Laboratories combine an energy-friendly MCU with a highly integrated radio transceiver. These devices are well suited for a variety of wireless applications across a wide range of frequencies, digital protocols, and power levels. The Silicon Labs RF Validation team is responsible for the development of hardware, software, test plans and systems to validate our integrated circuits and works with several functional teams (Design, Systems, Production Test, and Applications) to define and validate our RF products. RF Validation team also develops a configuration tool for the modems that gets integrated into our GSDK.

What We are Looking For?

Silicon Labs is seeking a RF Validation manager to lead and manage our RF Validation team in Rennes. The ideal candidate is an experienced people manager with proven track record of assembling and coordinating high-performance teams. The candidate should also be well versed in system level engineering and have a solid understanding of similar semiconductors. The position also requires understanding software at Python scripting and firmware levels, experience in board level hardware design and familiarity with test instrumentation, measurement techniques and tests automation.

Key responsibilities:
  • Direct and drive RF Validation team's goals, resource & capacity planning, processes & improvement initiatives, team development, load balancing, communication, and lab planning.
  • Team management: Recruiting, development & training, driving continuous improvement, defining and assigning work packages according to capacity and skills
  • Implement and develop work processes to scale efficiently and ensure high product quality
  • Lead RF validation team to execute upon the following responsibilities:
    • Development and execution of validation test plans, designing validation boards and systems, writing test firmware & software, and building system-level configurations
    • Post-silicon validation, testing, and debug of block functionality on prototype silicon
    • Work with design and FW teams on algorithm development, isolating design errata, performing failure analysis, and verifying design and FW fixes
    • Enable and/or perform silicon characterization and functional testing through the development of robust and reusable tests
    • Maintain and analyze characterization data to ensure that the data matches design goals while also identifying potential problems in production
    • Define, develop, and/or acquire software and/or hardware tools in support of silicon validation efforts
    • Develop automation scripts to automate data collection, decrease data collection times, ensure repeatable measurements, and generate reports
    • FPGA prototyping and pre-silicon validation
    • Build sustaining engineering competencies within the validation team to support existing products, assist the applications group, identify root causes of problems, and PG identified fixes
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to team members
  • Colloborate with other validation managers and communicate technical information to senior members of the management team
  • Oversee collaboration of team members with other disciplines (design, applications, product and test engineering, project management, systems engineering)
  • Conduct annual performance reviews of direct reports
  • Other duties as required


Required Experience & Skills:
  • B.S or M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering
  • 12+ yrs of experience out of which 5+ yrs of people management experience managing highly skilled HW & SW engineering teams
  • Proven ability to effectively recruit, develop, and retain employees
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Extensive hands-on experience with test and measurement equipment, measurement techniques and test automation
  • Strong knowledge of radio frequency concepts, measurements, and standards such as BLE and Wi-Fi
  • Knowledge of software programming tools and SW development
  • Knowledge of circuit design, device fabrication and board design
  • Proficiency with circuit-level simulation tools
  • Technical knowledge of analog and digital circuits
  • Technical documentation authoring and editing skills
  • Familiarity with quality procedures and documentation
  • Proficiency with MS Office or equivalent
