Meet the Team

The IoT 15.4 Protocol Software organization in Boston needs an accomplished director of engineering to lead and expand the 15.4 organization. In this role, you will be charged with leading SW R&D for critical technologies in our IoT SW team - the teams you will lead are located x-geo in Boston, Hanoi & Hyderabad. Part of your charge will be to continuously build talent within our teams including ramping the 15.4 technology R&D presence in our Hyderabad office. IoT 15.4 Software is responsible for delivering all Zigbee, OpenThread & Multiprotocol SW. We work closely with our Business Teams, Product Management, Alliance Organizations and our internal Application teams to set strategic direction for the 15.4 portfolio and enable our end customers to build amazing IoT products.

Responsibilities

  • Provide top-notch leadership and people management for the team
  • Grow the team x-geo as required to meet the business needs
  • Manage and mentor team members as a player coach
  • Work with Standards Alliances; Product Management & Business teams to set and manage strategic direction for the 15.4 portfolio.
  • Be a technical leader on 15.4 SW protfolio development
  • Lead your management team through agile delivery processes
  • Work with your managers and leads to plan for your team to deliver complex new features based on team capacity and productivity
  • Balance innovation with execution to ensure that the projects are delivered in a timely manner
  • Drive new process changes within IoT Platform Software to enable more efficient execution of our teams


Skills You Will Need

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of leading software engineering teams
  • 10+ years of hands-on embedded software development
  • Substantial and proven C programming knowledge
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, experience with setting product development strategy and balancing tactical versus strategic objectives.
  • Strong background in highly resource-constrained, real-time, embedded environments.
  • Experience with Assembly Language for at least one MCU (ARM, RISC-V, AVR, MSP430, 8051 or HC08)
  • Experience writing and developing networking / protocol stack SW.
  • Experience with one or more RTOS - Free RTOS, uc/OS, Zephyr.
  • Detailed understanding and hands-on experience in software development lifecycle and methodologies, including traditional Agile and waterfall methods.
  • Experience in use of modern project management tools (Confluence, Jira, Portfolio Manager, MS Project, etc).
  • Experience with Dev Ops CI/CD environments; Dev Ops tooling; SW release management practices
  • Proven track record of leading the interviewing and hiring of new full-time engineers & managers
  • Experience managing Software Engineering Managers
  • Experience working within a global organization
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to cover the breadth of audience from setting expectations/updates to executive team to detailed technical updates to engineering teams.
  • Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams in different locations
  • Ability to travel


The following qualifications will be considered a plus:
  • Experience working at a semiconductor company
  • Basic understanding of hardware IP architecture, development and verification
  • Radio firmware experience at the PHY / MAC layers
  • Specific hands-on experience with Zigbee, OpenThread, Bluetooth
  • Experience working with standards bodies

The annualized base pay range for this role is expected to be between $165,992 - $308,270 USD. Actual base pay could vary based on factors including but not limited to experience, geographic location where work will be performed and applicant's skill set. The base pay is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include an annual cash bonus, equity package and a comprehensive benefits package.
