Formula 1 cars, skyscrapers, ships, space exploration vehicles, and many of the objectswe see in our daily lives are being conceived and manufactured using our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software.

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Legal Counsel to join our APAC Legal Compliance Team and this role is based in Singapore or Shanghai.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice on all software copyright matters to the Asia Pacific License Compliance ("LC") team (ASEAN - Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand), Australia/New Zealand, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Japan, Korea and China).
  • Support legal program for software copyright enforcement in Asia Pacific.
  • Manage in-house and external legal programs e.g. counsel letter program, legal action etc.
  • Manage and support the retention of external counsel in Asia Pacific as required for civil and criminal legal actions/ litigation.
  • Handle legal escalated software copyright engagements by the Asia Pacific LC team.
  • Negotiate/ advise/ review/ draft settlement agreements (in English and Chinese, as needed).
  • Advise/ review/ draft legal documents as required by the LC team - License Compliance Specialized Partner agreements, Service agreements etc.
  • Support the implementation of legal process improvements across Asia Pacific for the Legal and LC teams to work more collaboratively.

Requirements:

  • Legal degree and licensed to practice as a lawyer in the jurisdiction required.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience dealing with software copyright matters, including trademark and/or copyright protection or other intellectual property enforcement issues for multinational companies and/ or 8 - 10 years of legal experience.
  • Experience in dealing with government (enforcement) agencies is desired, along with a proven ability to develop and maintain a good and solid relationship with these government agencies.
  • A fast learner with ability to work independently and strong analytical ability to seek efficient solutions suitable for software copyright enforcement programs and campaigns.
  • Excellent writing, oral communication, problem-solving and negotiation skills. Possess business savvy, ability to provide sound business outcomes within legal framework.
  • Excellent Chinese and English language skills are required, both written and spoken.
  • Familiarity with contractual documents covering acquisition and/or licensing of software and covering software reseller/distributor relationships is desirable.
