The role
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will architect and implement scalable, cloud-based solutions that drive platform modernization, transitioning from monolithic systems to resilient microservices architectures. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to enforce advanced SRE practices, optimize code, automate processes, and manage CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code. Additionally, you will mentor engineers and serve as a technical advisor, ensuring that the evolving technology stack meets both operational and business objectives.
Where you'll work
The position is remote within the United States; however, candidates must be based in the Central or Eastern time zones. Ideally, we are looking for someone in the Austin area who can visit our office occasionally, though this is not a strict requirement.
What you'll be doing
- Collaborating with leadership to define and execute a platform architecture roadmap that aligns with strategic business objectives.
- Driving targeted initiatives to modernize legacy systems and support the transition from monolithic architectures to distributed microservices.
- Leading platform projects from ideation through deployment and ongoing optimization, coordinating cross-team efforts to deliver unified, scalable solutions that align with business objectives.
- Developing, optimizing, and maintaining robust CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code practices for secure, reliable deployments.
- Implementing and enhancing advanced monitoring, alerting, and incident response solutions to ensure high system availability.
- Working closely with cross-functional teams, including SRE, security, and product, to align platform strategies with business goals.
- Establishing and enforcing architectural guidelines and operational best practices to ensure consistency and scalability.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of software engineering experience using PHP and Laravel, with 3+ years in platform engineering or similar roles, demonstrating a track record in delivering scalable distributed systems.
- Strong hands-on experience with Terraform and proficiency in at least one major cloud provider (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Application of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles, including implementing monitoring, alerting, and automation practices to ensure system reliability.
- Proven mentorship and leadership capabilities, effectively guiding engineering teams and promoting cross-team collaboration.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills to drive successful project outcomes.
- A proactive approach to evaluating and integrating emerging technologies to continually enhance system performance and operational efficiency.
