Job Title: Carrier Ethernet Engineer
Location: Remote within Segra's Footprint
Job Summary
The Carrier Ethernet Engineer must have knowledge Carrier Ethernet design for FttT backhaul (including EoS, L2 switched, & MPLS implementations). Also Working knowledge of MPLS-TP/8032 CE protection schemes, Working knowledge of 802.1ag OAM. & Working knowledge of Y.1731 PM Assignment and SLM measurements. This position is part of the Engineering team.

- Design, test, and document new transport applications
- Validate transport equipment for field deployment
- Work with the Provisioning team to ensure transport capacity for future network growth

- Evaluate new technologies for networks, applications, and platforms Support Operations in recreating scenarios found in the production G.8032/MPLS-TP or MPLS networks
- Perform maintenance activities including system patching and software upgrades

- Exercise considerable judgment in developing methods, techniques & evaluation criteria for obtaining results
- lead multiple medium to large-scale projects and provides guidance to staff members and peers

- Proactively monitor major transport issues and escalating problems with vendor design engineers
- Third level support for complicated transport outages and troubleshooting
Qualifications
- Education:/Experience: 2yr Technical College Degree or equivalent preferred. 3 years related industry experience. or a combined 5 years of education and related experience. Requires MEF Certification. Desire Two years of engineering experience. Experience can be full time or internship/co-op. Engineer-In-Training and/or CCNA certificate.
- Key Competencies: Work with minimum supervision, Work with the Provisioning team to ensure transport capacity for future network growth. Understanding of fiber optic principles as it relates to MMF and SMF media types, Ethernet, & OTN BER testing, & experience in designing and implementing projects. Experience with Carrier Ethernet design for FttT backhaul (including EoS, L2 switched, & MPLS implementations).
- Other: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and effective interpersonal skills to interact successfully with customers, management and team members, and proficiency with the use of personal computers to include Microsoft Office applications. Must be detail oriented with good organizational and time management skills. Must be analytical with proven problem solving abilities and the ability to troubleshoot complicated problems. Must be able to multi-task effectively, and demonstrate the ability to prioritize and re-prioritize as needed in a fast-paced working environment. Ability to adjust work schedule to support shifts of various lengths and start/stop times based on workload, & other duties as assigned.
