Part Time Security Officer

Job Summary:

Provides patrol and fixed post coverage at client site to observe, detect, and report activities and incidents. The primary functions of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Risk identification and issue resolution
  • Patrol of client site to prevent and detect signs of unauthorized access
  • Ensures security of individuals, buildings, doors, windows, and gates
  • Must be able to follow direction and detailed SOPs to ensure proper release of client assets
  • Enforces order and policy compliance, including challenging individuals to validate identification and area access/asset release requirements
  • Works within a team environment, striving for excellent communication and cooperation
  • This role may also be required to conduct defined tasks such as capturing data manually or via electronic devices as well as assisting with the application of asset tags and other minor processes.
  • Inspect vehicles, equipment and machinery for tampering. Warn violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles
  • Scan employee badges to register vehicle removal information.
  • Enter gate passes into the computer.
  • Observe and search, if necessary, departing Auction personnel to guard against theft of company property.
  • Verify all vehicles being removed from auction properties by scanning Vehicle Identification Numbers with a handheld scanner (TC75).
  • Verify received vehicles match those listed on transporters Bills of Lading. Direct transporters on proper placement of vehicles.
  • Maintain keys and paperwork for vehicle after hours.
  • General security duties including administrative tasks

Essential Functions:

  • All assigned duties or tasks are deemed to be part of the essential functions, unless such duties or tasks are unrelated to the functions listed. Employees are held accountable for successful job performance. In performing functions, duties, or tasks, employees are required to follow safe work practices, and to comply with company policies and procedures related to job safety and security rules and regulations. Employees aware of unsafe working conditions are required to notify superiors immediately.
  • All functions and duties are to be carried out in an honest, ethical, and professional manner, in accordance with applicable company/client policies, post orders, and procedures.
  • Responsible for compliance with standard operating procedures and client policies.
  • Completes reports and logs pertaining to daily activities, equipment inventories, and patrol vehicle condition.
  • Completes incident reports concerning suspicious or unusual occurrences, such as equipment/property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, and policy violations.
  • Completes all necessary reports within client guidelines in a timely, accurate, and professional manner; notifies proper authorities and client representatives in emergency situations.
  • Maintains thorough understanding of site/post operations and emergency procedures. Follows client and Securitas notification structure in the event of an emergency.
  • Maintains working knowledge of all security systems in relation to client site.


Required Additional Functions:

  • Always maintains a professional appearance and compliance with uniform requirements and policy. Must be punctual.
  • Must diplomatically handle conflict, problems, concerns, and various issues throughout the assigned shift.
  • Adapts to rapidly changing priorities, assignments, organizational structure, and position responsibilities depending on immediate client/business needs.
  • Completes reports, incidents and communications with adequate detail and accuracy.
  • Prepares shift and pass down reports as necessary, using proper grammar and extensive details.
  • Responds to all emergency incidents or conditions following procedures established for the client site.
  • Other duties as assigned to meet the business needs of the client.
Minimum Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a valid, unrestricted driver's license.
  • Must have a reliable means of communication.
  • Must have a reliable, daily means of transportation.
  • Must have the legal right to work in the United States.
  • Must have the ability to speak, read, and write English clearly and professionally.
  • Must be available to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime (with or without advanced notice).
  • Must be able to successfully complete the Company's pre-employment screening process, including drug screen, motor vehicle record check, and background investigation.
  • Ability to arrive on time for work, wearing the required uniform/suit and meeting all uniform guidelines.


Education/Experience/Certifications - (Required and/or Preferred)

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • Combination 1-2 years customer service and/or security related experience, including 1-2 years of security-related training or experience (military/private/public sector) sufficient to meet the requirements of the assigned site, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, as determined by the company.
  • Intermediate computer and Microsoft Office skills (Outlook email, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), including keyboarding, email and basic editing.
  • Must be able to meet and maintain any mandatory licensing requirements and site-specific requirements.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients across diverse backgrounds, with respect to their customs, economies, languages, and cultures.
  • Must demonstrate outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to speak clearly, articulately, and professionally.
  • Advanced writing skills to ensure accuracy and completeness of reporting incidents/issues and associated details.
  • Ability to confirm understanding of information/directions received.
  • Must be able to maintain professional composure in dealing with authorities, executives, clients, staff, and the public, occasionally under conditions of urgency and in high-pressure situations.
  • Must possess a professional demeanor and be self-motivated.
  • Planning and organizational experience; ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks concurrently and adjust to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt to sometimes rapid changes in the external environment, organization, and position responsibilities/expectations as dictated by business needs.
  • Proficiency in the security system programs and working knowledge of security access control systems.
  • Must possess problem solving, conflict resolution, leadership, and reasoning skills and sound judgement.
  • Ability to provide directions within a geographical aspect (i.e., customer is in the North East vehicle lot).
  • Ability to understand and use Securitas Vision applications and mobile devices

  • Depending upon assignment, may be exposed to inclement weather or be required to work in environments/conditions that require the use of protective gear and devices while maintaining awareness of personal safety and safety of others.
  • May be exposed to or required to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Requires operation of company and client vehicles as part of job responsibilities.
