Senior Linux Firmware Engineer (Linux OS Expert and Real-Time Application Developer)

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Linux OS expert to join our team. You will play a key role in developing and maintaining our Linux-based systems, focusing on both the core infrastructure and real-time application development.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain Linux distributions:
- Utilize Yocto Project or Debian to create customized Linux distributions tailored to our specific needs.
- Deep understanding of package management systems, build systems, and kernel configuration.

- Strong understanding of the Linux kernel architecture, internals, and functionalities.
- Ability to analyze, modify, and troubleshoot kernel-level issues.
- Design, develop, and deploy real-time applications for critical systems using Linux and appropriate programming languages (e.g., C, C++).
- Understand the principles of real-time scheduling and resource management.
- Experience in diagnosing and resolving complex issues within the Linux environment.
- Ability to identify and implement solutions efficiently.

Who will you report to?
- This is a single contributor role who will report to the Senior Manager, Firmware/Software. This position is located preferably in Foxboro, MA. You will be expected to work in the office a minimum of 2 days a week.
What qualifications will make you successful for this role?
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 3+ years of experience working with Linux operating systems.
- Proven experience in developing and maintaining custom Linux distributions using Yocto Project or Debian.
- Proven experience configuring the Linux kernel (KConfig) and a good understanding of Linux Device Tree.
- Experience in bringing up Linux on embedded systems.
- In-depth knowledge of the Linux kernel architecture and internals.
- Strong experience in real-time application development using Linux and appropriate programming languages.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Bonus points:
- Experience with building and running U-Boot on embedded systems.
- Experience with embedded systems development.
- Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Podman).
- Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python).
- Knowledge of open-source software development methodologies.
- Knowledge of networking protocols and TCP/IP stack.
- Understanding of cryptography and security concepts and implementation in embedded systems.
